EXMUSLIMAH says he is not Shiite. That is good to know. So can anybody shed light on his 12th Imam beliefs?

I'm not sure what Ahmadinejad's particular beliefs are, and he has no religious authority anyway - he's just a politician.

Shia, in general, believe that the 12th Imam was born approx. 600 years ago, and was taken into occultation - that's a lot like how Jesus and Elijah (peace be upon them) were taken up to heaven without dying. They believe that he will return with, or just before Jesus (pbuh) to bring about a peaceful reign over the earth before the end of time and the day of judgement. Since Jesus (pbuh) is a prophet, and Mahdi is an Imam, not a prophet, Jesus (pbuh) will be the leader, and Mahdi will be his helper.

At least that is how I understand what I have read. I hope someone corrects any errors or significant omissions I have made.

Ahmadinajad is right, he is a shia muslim, and does believe that al Mahdi will come back, along with Jesus pbuthem, together and will stop all the evil around the world. You know, they will reign for seven years.
