Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain that means not enough of the "happy" chemicals are released, this begins a cycle of depression when your mind becomes consumed with all the things that are wrong in your life and it can range from simply not being lucky enough to thoughts of suicide. You are unable to see solutions to your problems, ways around the difficulties you become frustrated, weepy and lack motivation for the things in your life that use to give you pleasure you, its not a disability as much as its an inability to be able to control it and come out of it... severe depression is dibilitating in the extreme and people who experience it need support and that may range in a variety of ways from medication, counseling to hospitilisation, all three or a mixture. People who have never experienced the effects of depression find it difficult to help those who are going through it and will often dismiss it as laziness, sympathy getting and will make comments like pull yourself together or just get over it for the mildly depressed that may be OK and you can put it down to their ignorance of the illness but for a severely depressed person those comments can mean undue pressure being placed on an already fragile existance. If you know someone who is suffering depression encourage them to talk about how thay are feeling, suggest they listen to upbeat music, watch comedy movies, go for a walk but dont push.
If you suffer from depression be kind to yourself, make as much effort as you can to remain in control, encourage youself to eat well and healthily, drink plenty of water and regular exercise. If you find this doesnt improve things continue but see a Dr and if medication is recommended take it as prescribed, you may need to try a few to find the one that will assist you be perserverence is the key....wishing you well!

I think it's caused by a lack of serotonin to the brain. I had depression and people kept saying how good I had it compared to other people! But it did not mean a thing to me! Millionaires get depression! which bears me out! So I went to see a doctor and hey! It's gone! One pill a day keeps it away! Off you go to the doctor! Lol!

Its when all your thought end in a negative and you feel responsible. Everyone has sad days but depression takes away every thing you feel good about. you cant sleep as your brain wont turn off with worries or thoughts about things you said or done.tunring to alcohol or drugs or even casual sex to feel good is always the wrong answer as in the end they will make you feel worse when you come down or sober up...its really not worth it.....speaking form experience. You can get perscription help for this but ultimatly you have to make a life change to have a permanent possitive reaction to your own actions. otherwise it will always be a vicious cirle.

its when you exhibit hopelessness, anorexia (can't eat), staring at a blank space, cannot fuction very well. you even don't give attention to other people around you and your personal hygiene. its best to consult a psychiatrist if it lasts for a month or more.

but i can say, alsmost all paople experience it, it just depends on the coping mechanism of a person so he or she can feel faster than other people
