OK, first there is a BIG difference between spraying and going to the bathroom as in using the litter box. A male cat does spray. And when he does this he is MARKING his territory or area. And obviously when he uses the litter box he is relieving himself. And on the bad side is you will not be able to stop him from spraying. This is a course of nature type thing. If he is young enough like UNDER 6 months old then he can be neutered and he won't spray. But over that and he will and does spray. The only option is to not keep him in the house. Sorry.

The smell is most likely a urinary infection. Take him to the vet and get him checked out. Getting the cat neutered will deter him from spraying but it will take some training to stop it from happening in the house. Your going to have to be determined when fighting the problem. After getting the cat fixed keep the litter boxes clean, clean any spot he sprays that day sooner or later the cat will learn not to spray in the house.I have ten cats and all of the were strays.

Spraying is marking territory with urine. Both male and female cats do this.
As far as the odor, if it's just when he's actually going, not the room where his litter box is (as in, he's going somewhere other than his box and the odor lingers), take him to the vet. If it's his urine that smells, he may have a urinary tract infection (UTI). If left unchecked, he will start peeing outside his box and it may lead to kidney failure. If it's his feces, he may have worms that need to be treated or it may be his food. Good luck.

First off, get him neutered, he most likely will stop. He is marking his territory, If you have another cat in your home, he is telling it that this is his turf now! If he is a stray, he may not know to use the litter box. It is really hard to get cat smell out. Fabreze works well and bleach water. Don't discipline him too hard if he sprays, he may spray more because he feels threatened. Put him in the litter box, or outside when he sprays, he will eventually get the hint. Give him time to get used to you and he will stop.

First vaccumn the spot. Then use a odor spray from a local pet store.Next buy a litter box and train the kitten. How you ask.You keep him in the bathroom with the liter box for a couple of hours with food and he would be trained.Hope that answers your question.

It is not urine; cats have a scent gland, not dissimilar to a sknunk or ferret. It is an oily substance, which is why it is so hard to get rid of. Get the cat neutered, if he isn't already. The only thing that will neutralize the smell is a special spray you can get from pet stores/vets that uses amino acids to get rid of it.

they spray small amounts of urine around an area to mark their territory. getting him desexed will knock this on the head pretty quickly, and will also help cull the stray cat population :)
