I'm can't speak for the whole of western society. Also, are you asking why the west seems to hate Muslims or are you asking why the west aren't Muslims themselves? Islam's accepting Jesus as a prophet doesn't mean a Christian is going against God by not converting to Islam. In fact, a Christian could ask you a similar question - having accepted Jesus to be a prophet, why can't Muslims take the next step and convert to Christianity?
I don't imagine a Muslim would seriously consider that question any more than a Christian would accept yours, assuming you mean why haven't Christians converted to Islam? You are never going to convince a Christian they are going against God by being a Christian nor are you ever going to convince a Muslim they are going against God by being a Muslim.
Also, I make my point using the assumption that for arguments sake, the west is Christian - predominantly, yes, but the west isn't made up entirely of Christians - there are all sorts of faiths (at least in America).
Personally, I refuse to accept zealotry - whether Islamic, Christian, scientific or whatever. I like to believe THAT is the issue the west has with Islam - if 'it' does and if a general statement has to be made (I think its a dangerous assumption). I think that if you believe in a given faith and it helps you live what you consider a good life, then its useful. If on the other hand, your faith compels you to kill or berate others for not sharing your faith, then it is destructive - it doesn't being people together but rather divides them apart - doesn't seem to fit the message of the either faith does it?
Unfortunately, zealots (of whatever flavor) scream the loudest and in the case of Islam, the screaming currently takes the form of suicide bombings. Wouldn't you agree that the idea of blowing yourself and others (both suicide and murder labeled as martyrdom) up in the name of Allah, the peaceful, the compassionate, the merciful seems contradictory at best?
Christian zealots are no better in my opinion - bombing abortion clinics (don't kill) yet are against stem cell research (in my mind, just an indirect form of killing - prevention of life saving research) Hypocritical, profiteering televangelists on the airwaves spending more time on the proper accent (Whean you a-ceeapt Jeeasous Chraest, you will be say-yeved-da!) and other acting talents than actually giving the sermon - (Jim Baker anyone) That seems to be completely against Christ's teachings to me.
These things doesn't seem like an effective way to gain acceptance to me. The do as I say, not as I do crap doesn't wash with me.
Islam (or Christianity or religion in general for that matter) isn't the problem, rather, its the zealots that give them bad reputations. Its very easy to destroy trust and very hard to gain it - particularly when its been lost.
Besides aren't they all the same God?
Judaism - Yahweh
Christianity - Jehovah
Islam - Allah
Different names for the same thing.
Car
Automobile
Vehicle
Would you argue over what the correct term is or accept they mean the same thing?
The definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over, failing each time, yet trying again expecting a different outcome.
Addition:
Night Lover - you are not correct the middle east DID have all those things. It was once a huge region for scholarly learning, very advanced for its time in terms of literacy, science and technology - that's why so many stars have Arabic names for instance. In recent times, when fundamentalist took control - yes, control (its not about teaching the Quran, its about controlling people - just like most religions do today), things went drastically down hill. Iran was a well off nation once for example - then came the Ayatollah. Look at what that kind of fundamentalism has done.
Religious Dictatorship 101, Lesson 1 - Enforce ignorance on your people. Preach the virtue of being a lemming.

Interesting question, I personally am offended by the comments of the mufti regarding women and convicts.I know that many Muslims are good, caring people but the attitudes of the radical few have made it very difficult for the west to see Muslims as nothing more than fanatical extremests that want to take over the world, that will use any means to achieve that goal.

Why don't the Muslims read the Bible? If you take Jesus seriously then you should at the very least read the Gospels because they were written by witnesses to the events described or by people who had investigated the claims of witnesses. Instead you rely on the Quran which was written over 500 years after the last book of the Bible was written.

because Jesus is mentioned in the Muslims holly book, but Islam is not mentioned in any holly book before Qumran,so why other should take Islam like that.
Islam don't respect the fire worship because there are not real things, also other people believe that Islam is an inventory of Muhammad

Because holding "Jesus Christ in high-esteem" is not good enough. One must worship Him for his is the very word of God in the flesh.
Islam is good but it does not meet my needs. I need the Sacraments, I need grace, I need an intermediary, I need the Church -- Islam has none of these.

The West received a cruel jolt from Islamic extremist they did not deserve. They are angry beyond anything in all of their history - they did not work hard for what they have to let someone come and take a potshot at them. What about you what if someone came up to you and for a reason in their own mind punched you in the face, would you stand there and say "thank you"? I know I would't I'd start swinging back. Still a few people here and there are accepting Islam. Be patient. What wil happen will happen.

Salaam Alikum,
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
[1] Concerning what are they disputing?
[2] Concerning the Great News,
[3] About which they cannot agree.
[4] Verily, they shall soon (come to) know!
[5] Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know!
[6] Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse,
[7] And the mountains as pegs?
[8] And (have We not) created you in pairs,
[9] And made your sleep for rest,
[10] And made the night as a covering,
[11] And made the day as a means of subsistence?
[12] And (have We not) built over you the seven Firmaments,
[13] And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour?
[14] And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance,
[15] That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables,
[16] And gardens of luxurious growth?
[17] Verily the Day of Sorting Out is a thing appointed,
[18] The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds;
[19] And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors,
[20] And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage.
[21] Truly Hell is as a place of ambush,
[22] For the transgressors a place of destination:
[23] They will dwell therein for ages.
[24] Nothing cool shall they taste therein, not any drink,
[25] Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold,
[26] A fitting recompense (for them).
[27] For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds),
[28] But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false.
[29] And all things have We preserved on record.
[30] "So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in Punishment."
[31] Verily for the Righteous there will be a fulfilment of (the Heart's) desires;
peace

Jesus Christ is Lord of lords and King of kings! He is the Savior of all who come to him for Salvation..
John 3:16 Fod r God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
There is no hate in my life, the Holy Bible teaches love, not hate. We are not going to kill if you don't became a Christian.

Christians believe that Jesus is the Son of God and no one gets to the Father except through Him. In other words its a matter of lie(eternal) or death(eternal in a horrible place). If you believe Jesus is the way to God then you can compromise, call him a great prophet, and its not that important for anyone to even know about him. But, if you really believe he is the only way to heaven, or eternal wonderful life, its important to tell those who don't believe. Not to try to convince them to prove we are right, but to convince them so they can have a wonderful life for eternity. If we are a loving people, then its important for us to tell people about Jesus. Jesus himself co missions us to go and spread the Gospel to the world. Its in love, and love only.
