Obviously rejection hurts for somebody no matter what, but in my experience...from both sides of either doling out rejection or taking it....honesty really is the best policy. I think being up front instead of "giving it a try" and letting the other person get their hopes up helps. I mean it will still hurt, but it will hurt a lot less than the sting of feeling led on or being rejected after having a taste of what you wanted. Don't feel guilty, you'll be in her place eventually too.

Don't feel too bad sweety, at least you aren't 1 of those losers that would lead a girl on! You obviously can't help it if you aren't attracted to her. The fact that you are feeling bad shows that you wouldn't wanna lose her altogether. Im kinda like in the same situation as you and as i'm giving you this advise-all this would be SO hard for me to do cos this guy is really genuine but i don't see myself with him ina realtionship.
It may be difficult to do but all you can do is talk to her and explain that you would prefer a friendship rather than anything else. All the luck to you, me and all the other buggers in our situation!

It's not shallow, it's honest. Well, maybe it could be shallow AND honest, it's not like you can't be both.
And yes, there is no way to avoid hurting her. But by breaking up in a decent way and sparing her both wasted time and energy on a dead-on-arrival relationship, you are saving her a lot of hurt down the road. Lesser of two evils, good luck :P

Unless that person has no heart and no feelings then no....it will hurt no matter what, but thats life. They will get over it soon enough. it will hurt more in the end if you draw it out.

Evaluate WHY you don't want to be in a relationship with her, and talk to her. Communication is key in ANY relationship. Do you want to maintain a friendship with her? If you separate, will their be a tension or a future desire to rekindle? These things should be talked about...

love stinks. it always hurts. quick is most painless. dragging it out, trying to stay friends, or seeing each other in social or work situations makes it much harder to get over.

hey that is what dating is for to find that one for you. so if you cant see yourself with her then let her know because she is going to be hurt anyways. you might as well be up front with her.
