How to spot a Phony SEAL
(as outlined on the Naval Special Warfare Archives homepage)
He's wearing camouflage clothing decorated with multiple patches, ribbons, and tridents.
When asked for his class number, says he didn't have to go through training...went straight to SEALs from Marines, Air Force, etc.
When asked what Team he was in, says Team 6 (everybody wants to be in Team 6).
When asked for names, places, dates, etc., the wannabe says it's top secret, still classified.
Claims to have been a POW, or his entire platoon was wiped out and he was captured.
Talks about his medals, maybe even the Medal of Honor (SEALs don't talk about their medals).
He can't remember the name of his swim buddy, commanding officer, or platoon officer.

I do not know, minus googling, and seeing if the have a site.
Navy seals are known for this. There are many who make th claim, but truly are not frogmen.
In college, we were playing paintball with some ladies from a sorority, and a couple guys showed up uninvited. One of the guys had Seal unit patches on the cammies he was wearing. He claimed to be a Seal, but wasn't.
While on ship, we shared a berting area with a Seal Team. They were bada**! From my experience there, I knew this guy playing paintball was not a frogman. I let him know the Seals don't like it when people walk around doing that sort of thing.
Of course, he did not care. But, yes the Seals do take it very personal. Same thing can be said about us Marines. There are people out there who do the same. They want all the glory without going through the hard work and time served.

This group no longer does investigations, but there's some good info on their site:
http://cyberseals.org/
You might try here. Just click on their "Phonies and Wannabees" section:

Good luck!
