Yes, there are people in China that believe in Jesus. The only thing is they have to worship in underground churches, so that nobody will find out.

Yes, there are Christian Churches here in China. They all seem to follow the general Protestant beliefs. In general the preaching is at least on par with what I've seen in New Zealand, which I believe is on par with the rest of the world, in regards to Christian understanding and interpretation of the Bible. Most Churches are very full on Sunday. The one I attended (until recently) would have a queue stretching about 50 meters down the pavement waiting to get in. I don't know how many attended the main service, but my guess is it was over 1000.

I have heard that China is a communist country. But just because they are a communist country does not mean that the individual people don't believe in God. That is like saying that the U.S. is a Godly country. Yes, America was founded on Christian principles and our Constitution was inspired by the 10 commandments, but that doesn't mean that every individual in America believes in God. There are people of all beliefs and religions here. The same goes for China and every other country and continent and island on this planet.

Tell your dad there are Catholics and Protestants in China who believe in Jesus: Buddhism is most widely practiced, with an estimated 100 million adherents. Traditional Taoism also is practiced. Official figures indicate there are 20 million Muslims, 5 million Catholics, and 15 million Protestants; unofficial estimates are much higher.
These statistics came from the U S Department of State website. It is updated often.

Some Chinese people do. Not everybody in China is a communist - about 20 million peple are, so they are actually a minority there. There are an estimated 14 million Christians there.

I know the Jehovah's Witnesses that live there do. As for communism meaning godlessness, it should be pointed out that the Jews were one of the major backers of the overthrow of the Russian Czars and the establishment of a socialist/communist government.

In terms of absolute numbers (not percentages), current estimates are that Christians in China actually outnumber(!) those in the U.S. In some regions they are persecuted by local authorities; in others, left undisturbed.

China has predominantly Buddhists and Taoists(Daoists), but also does have a Christian population of 3-4% and a Muslim population of 1-2%. The country is officially atheist, so your father was somewhat correct.

Well your father is correct - for those not Catholic/Christian. As I went to church in Hong Kong, I stood next to quite a few Catholics, in China. It depends on each persons faith. This is true everywhere.
