Jesus is both: His influence as a religious figure would be of no consequence if He had not really existed.
Yes, there are references to Him outside the Bible. However, the people who wrote their own records of Him (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, etc) did not think they were compiling holy writ. They were just giving their students a way to remember the things they had told them over the years. Luke especially seems to have gone to great lengths to research his material, since he was NOT an eyewitness, but a disciple of St. Paul. I find it extremely bigoted to exclude the Biblical accounts of history on the grounds that they are "religious texts", as if that alone means they are not a trustworthy source.
Do a google search on "extrabiblical records of Jesus". You will be surprised at the number of documents you find.

the jesus of the koran is often times confused with the Jesus of the bible, butthey are totally different, the Jesus of the bible is absolutely real, it's been proven, he is the only begotten son of God. the jesus of the koran was also born to a woman named mary, but in the koran it says that mary was the brother of aaron, wich was the brother of moses. moses mother died well over 2,000 years before mary [mother of God's only begotten Son] was born. islam claims that these two jesus's are one in the same, but that is not so. you see muhammed was a child molester, when he was in his 40's, or 50's he married a 12 year old girl for the sex.. he hated jews, and catholics, and decided to form a religion to destroy those he hated [the jews and catholics] and thats what he did, and now his hatred of jews and catholics has spread to christians. so the real question here is not if jesus is a historical figure or not, the question is why do muslims follow a madman like muhammed who has been proven a liar, and has been proven to create a false jesus, who was a wicked, evil man? when they could follow the risen savior, the only begotten son of God, the LORD JESUS CHRIST

Christ is both historical and religious personality, but there could not be well-documented records in those days. His life has been retold concretely by Muhammad and Baha'u'llah; we can learn more about Him by studying Islam and the Baha'i Faith. All these Personalities are Messengers of the One True God.

He was a historical figure as well as a religious one...The virgin birth was common in his time many unwed women claimed it ;). He is on the same level as Buddha, Muhammad, john smith, and L Ron Hubbard he started a religion. As far as him resurrecting from the dead only his mother and Mary Magellan saw him so take that as you wish. Nero claimed Christianity as the state religion after having a dream about Jesus on a bridge....How could i get a thumbs down everything i stated is documented...i'm not taking either side im just stating what is documented....see this is why no one likes christians..if i said yes get down on your knees and thank him i would have got thumbs up.....people please tell everyone the facts and give them a chance to make up there own minds without forcing it down there face......God did give us free will

I think there was a guy that the religious figure of Jesus was based on. There is some historical evidence. But he wasn't the son of god and he didn't do holy tricks.

Yes it's well documented dude.
You're only allowed to see the documents if your the pope though so you better get to Church if you gonna be pope one day.
Don't forget to bring some money for the collection plate too. The Vicar needs a new BMW X5 to carry his holy butt to church and back in.

Historical… Regardless of how you feel about God and Jesus the holly son of God you must remember that Kings and rulers wanted him dead.
He was murdered by order of kings that feared him… So in that light Jesus is a part of history as well as religion

In a period of only 30 years, the Roman Empire was invaded by the new Jewish sect, "Christianity". (Jesus died in 30 AD after all of his few dozen followers had scattered in fear, and Nero was the first emporer to acknowledge Christianity as a threat to the empire--albeit a small one--not long after 60 AD.)
Within a short time after that, Christianity had overrun the empire.
How much proof do you need?

properly... to respond to portion of your question.... this style of superb form of human beings "ignored" Noah's typhoon via fact they died. in basic terms Lot and his 2 daughters escaped Sodom. All of Pharaoh's military died interior the purple sea, abandoning in basic terms the Jews...which did write approximately it interior the previous testomony. The crucifixion of Jesus is the only one on your checklist that should make experience for their to be a mundane non-religious checklist of, yet i won't be able to think of an genuinely roman checklist of it being greater beneficial than a itemizing of human beings crucified in some checklist and this style of factor could be actual destroyed, or in basic terms no longer yet stumbled on.
