They are not specifically banned but the first time I saw the breed at a show (actually in the USA although I live in England) I thought it was a mixed bull breed class as the type was so varied.
If a dog looks like a pit bull - and some of the ones in Washington could have moved into the next (pit bull) ring - it does come under the ban as being of "pit bull type".
