...OVER-CONFIDENT?

It's akin to a feeling of having just taken a mid-term thinking you aced it because you studied really, really, really hard for it. but you don't know for sure if you actually did, yet you pretend that the possibility of not having aced the exam at all doesn't exist.

Know what I mean? hehehe....

Oh yes! And whoever gives me a thumbs down will DEFINITELY NOT go to heaven. You've been warned.

You're absolutely correct...I pity those who "know" they're saved. It tends to make one complacent.

I hope and have faith that I am...or at least stand a good chance...but I would NEVER claim to know God's final decision...in anything! I'm the kind of guy who studies until the teacher says "OK...put all your books and papers under your desk!"

Like with all humans, there will be those who just aren't sure about anything. They are referred to as being double minded and unstable. As for me personally, I believe 100% w/o a doubt that Jesus Christ is the Messiah. He was born af the virgin Mary. He walked upon the earth and performed many miracles. He died on a Friday and came back to life on Sunday. After His ressurection He appeared in person to His disciples and continued to walk on the earth for many days. Then He ascended to Heaven where He sits at the right hand of the Father. When He ascended, He sent to us the presense of God which is the Holy Spirit who lives in me. Jesus Christ was the final sacrifice. He died for my sins, that I can have eternal life. If you choose to accept Him as your personal Savior and repent of your sins, you can have eternal life , too.

So now, to answer your question, "Are Christians OVER-CONFIDENT" I would have to say that I am 100% confident that the Bible is 100% true and that I am 100% saved. Since there is really no way to have more than 100% of anything, I cannot possibly be over 100% confident, therefore, cannot be "OVER-CONFIDENT", simply convinced.

It's just like when people think "it won't happen to me" or "I would never do that," and then they do. It's not a matter of wether or not they are saved. It's a matter of being sure, and even the bible will tell you that being too sure is a bad thing. An unguarded strength is a double weakness. It leaves you open for satan to come in and tempt you, or try and influence your life in other ways. When you leave areas of your life unguarded, you can safely assume that you might fail the midterm so to speak.

Yes- well put. I get tired of them thinking they are the only ones that are going to make it through those pearly gates. Christianity...has generated savage wars of religion and supported innumerable 'just wars'; has tortured and burned multitudes of heretics and witches in the name of God; has motivated and authorized the persecution of the Jews; has validated systematic racism; and has tolerated the Western capitalist 'rape of the earth,' the misuse of nuclear energy, and the basic injustice of the North-South division into rich and poor nations. If Christians are morally redeemed through their faith in Christ, then they should be more likely than most to be forthright about their moral condition.

Not saved on our own merit, but by the grace of God. I'm a sinner, so I can't be saved if it's only up to me; however, I believe that God sent Jesus to die for my sins, so no, I'm no over-confident. I am saved.

People are saved when they accept Jesus Christ as their Personal Savior. And no, their not over confident, they just know that through Jesus we are saved and by the Grace of God we are forgiven.

Wow, good comparison.. I understand. But I don't personally know any that are quite like that. They leave a lot of room for error.

Y!A is a different case though...
