I just got a perscription for it but I'm still a little scared to take it. Will it help give me energy and motivation?

I have been taking Lexapro 10mg for over a year now. It has completely cured my depression, boosted my energy level and motivated me once again to do the things I enjoy. It will take a few weeks to work. Just take it as directed and I am sure that you will feel better soon. Good luck!! P.S. Some have minor side affects, but they go away usually. I had none.

You should have gotten information with the lexapro explaining some of the side effects of the drug itself. The person TAKING the drug, however, may have only one of the symptoms listed. I would tell you to begin the medication regiment as prescribed by your doctor. If you are experiencing any problems after taking the Lexapro, it is easy to call up the doc's office and talk to the nurse who works with Dr.. You could also call the pharmacist where the Rx was filled and if it something your doc should know about, the pharmacist should tell you to call the doc's office.

Any-who-how ... begin the med regiment and see how it goes. These drugs act differently in different people. For me personally, I was switched from Lexapro to another med because Lexapro was making me more tired. For the vast majority of people, yes, it will give you energy and make you feel good enough to be able to enjoy the activities that you used to enjoy.

Please do not be scared. It would not have been prescribed if you did not need it. I could go on and tell you about SSRI meds, but that might put you to sleep...

Good Luck, I'm around,

Ebee

Lexapro itself probably won't give you energy & motivation, but freedom from depression definitely will.
I responded well to Lexapro and the only side effect I had was sexual. All meds have risks of side effects, but that doesn't mean you will get all or any of them.
Don't be scared, if you are at the point where you are ready to try medication, it is so worth trying. When it works, it is like a miracle.

I'm on Lexapro for GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) and it works wonderfully. I've been on Paxil, Zoloft, and Effexor; but so far, Lexapro is the only one that worked with very few side effects. The only side effect I've experienced is something called "Electric Shock Syndrome" (not to be confused with TSS), which is a withdrawl I experienced. Basically, you feel a little dizzy and your equilibrium feels a bit off; but very, very few patients suffer from that, and when they do, it's mild. You only get it if you are trying to get off the pills, though, and you probably won't even get it.

Basically, don't be afraid to take it! If you really need it, it will work! It did for me :) take care.

Lexipro is a drug made to balance your mental state, which in turn helps you get over your depression somewhat. I took 20 to 30mg. of it for about a year and it never really did anything to help me. I take Prozac now, and it really works, but unless you have a serious problem, then i wouldn't recomend it. Just remember, that depression meds only help people who help themselves, you have to beleive it's working.
