Besides damaging it from bleaching it after it has been dyed black, you risk the chance of it turning a nice bright orange color.

It will need a dye that has a lot of bleach in it to remove the black dye and to get through your natural colour. So yes damage is likely to occur, this is a job for the professionals so that it does not end up a disaster.
See a hairdresser and discuss with them what you want to do and the best way to do it. If money is an issue ring up hair dye companies and ask their telephone consultants what product/s would be best etc.
And just a bit of 'trivia' for you, anything we put on our scalp (and nails) is absorbed into the bloodstream, that is why allergy tests should be done before using any products. If there is a reaction you do not use the product.

bleach always damages hair. if your hair is already chemically treated the consequences will be worse. I treated my hair a number of times to try and reduce the amount of curls I have, and the last time I did it, my hair reacted badly and the curls wouldn't come back at all!! I had to wait and wait to cut the damaged hair a bit at a time. remember, there is so much chemicals that hair can take. bleach is one of the worst... so be careful that you don't damage it too much or you might have to live with the consequences for quite a long time, and it won't be nice.

I think it would damage it pretty bad because you have to bleach out the dye AND your natural color...but hair always grows back :)
Are you going to bleach it and dye the bleached part another color like pink or blue? You can find some semi-permanent glazes at the beauty supply that may go on pretty bright over the black.
Here are some sites with appropriate treatment and Warnings :)

I would strongly recommend going to a hair salon to have this done as it could get very nasty, even more so consdering such a drastic change from black to blonde.
Naturally, with any hair dye will come some hair damage. The best thing you can do is have it done professionally and follow their advice on how to treat your hair afterwards. You'll definately have to put some effort in to restoring your hair to its former glory with things such a hair conditioning treatment and leave in conditioner.
Good luck!

Just use the conditioner for the coloured hair. Dying your hair will dry it out of course, but if you take care of it, then all should be well.
The first website will actually help you learn a lot more about hair colouring and the second site will tell you exactly what you have to do for your situation. Good luck

Bleach always damages your hair. When I was in beauty school, I saw a woman who simply would not listen to reason and wanted her hair bleached anyway, after a color and perm. I saw her hair turn to an apple sauce consistency.

dont bleach your hair. it will only damage it. just wash your hair everyday the black dye will fade off slowly. and turn back into the colour you have previously.

Anytime you dye your hair blonde, it strips it and causes damage. I wouldn't suggest you do it out of a box at home--those destroy hair. Go to a professional and let them do it. They have stuff to protect your hair when they do it.
