Green, white and GOLD is the tricolour..

But yeah the Irish tricolour is meant to symbolise harmony between green and orange. Between those from the Catholic tradition and those from the Protestant. Including those erudite Rab C Nesbitts you mentioned

edit: Its not only Northern Protestants who refer to it that way. The only antagonistic descriptions I've heard are green, white and yellow. Gold is the colour of champions.

The flag of Ireland (the Irish nation) is green/white/orange in vertical bands. That's why.

do you know what the flag symbolises ?

green catholics
white peace
orange protestants

protestants from the north call it green white and gold to refute claims that is a symbol of peace and they are the antagonists
