Americans got to choose their name since they are the dominant, successful, more powerful, and prosperous country on the continent.
Such privilege comes with winning. The losers get what's left.
It's survival of the fittest.

There is no such thing as a Mexican.
Today's Mexicans are only Aztec, Mayans, or Indians that were conquered by white Spaniards. They were very good at being conquered throughout history.
They were assimilated into Spain's Kingdom.

The Spaniards took the native women and bred Spanish speaking descendants of white Spanish bloodlines. There were no other women around. There is no pure Mexican blood.

The language is Spanish. It is a European language. There is no language called "Mexican".
There is no original or unique Mexican language, bloodline, or culture. Everything was influenced by Spain.
The architecture is from Spain. The alphabet is from Spain.
There would be no modern advancement, technological or financial achievements or success without the white influence of Spain. Even the popular Catholic religion of Mexico is European.

Mexico is older than the United States, yet is still underdeveloped and third-world. They don't win wars, they lose them.

People flee from Mexico and it's lifestyle and risk deportation, arrest, death, and loss in order to cross the border and live in "AMERICA".

Millions of descendants of the Spanish-conquered and controlled people of Mexico have crossed over into the beautiful and prosperous United States of America!
There is no reason to stay in Mexico.
Millions of people testify to that truth.

There is no identity problem. If the continent where a person resides is called North America wouldn't it make sense that the people who reside in it be called Americans? I have heard people being referred to and classified by the continents in which they live in such as Africans, Australians, Asians, etc. Even though there is North and South America, if a country within these areas were not part of the colonized states, which is considered the United States of America, that country's citizens is not United States citizens.

We call ourselves Americans because the title of our country is "The United States of America." It's just easier to say "American" than say..."US citizen". Canadians are called Canadians, Mexicans are called Mexicans. It's just that the word is used in the name of the country, so therefor we are that.

BTW, Cuba is an island, not even part of the North America, and Argentina is in South America.

We call ourselves the United States of America. We are on the North American continent and that is why we use the name Americans. You must live in the United States to be a citizen, not in the other countries in North (Canada) or South America.
Of course we have an identity and we are a sovereign nation.

Agentina, Canada, Mexico, cuba have not elected to use the Name America in the name of their country. Unlike the United State of America. That' why we can call ourselves Americans. No identity crisis. However I do think the Mexican are having an identity crisis because of it. The keep coming over the boarder and working here without papers. Maybe they think it's because it's all part of the American contient therefore it's has to belong to Mexico, can't be because they are lawbreakers!!

America isn't from Argentina to Canada. There are two continents, North America and South America. The only "America" is the "United States of America" as the United States of Mexico is Mexico and the United States of Brazil is Brazil.

If your country's name was the United States of America, what would you call yourselves?

In any event, whatever you call yourself, it doesn't change immigration or citizenship requirements of our sovereign country (whatever you call that.)

the united states is full of every ethnicity. its not full of just africans or mexicans or cubans or anything else. its a bunch put together. in Mexico for ex. there are mainly mexicans there. so you would call someone from mexico a mexican not an american. I understand what you mean and it can be put that way. pretty much who ever lives on thisside of the world is an american. but its all because the US is a big melting pot.

We call oursleves American because we are citizens of the greatest country on Earth. The United States of America.

We do have an identity and that is why we call ourselves Americans. Cubans call themselves Cubans. Brazilians call themelves Brazilians.

The name "American" is not about the geographical region that one is claiming. It is about the person's nationality that they are claiming. Two different things.

It's just a shortened version of the title of our country. No one calls us UnitedStatesians. No other country in North America or South American would want to call themselves Americans.

Why do we get this question?

America are Americans. Mexicans are Mexican! Because we share the Continent of the Americas does not make other countries Americans!
