After you install the software and begin to run it, what the software does it begins to send a request to a server at Google's headquarters. Then, the request is constantly being updated as you browse around the world's satellite (which is why they want you to have a broadband connection). Once they determine the location of what you want to view, they virtually connect you to a satellite (though not real time) and show you the images that the satellite last took. There is no real way of updating the satellite's information to receive the new image, this I believe is done on it's own. From the satellite's image, the program then picks it up and puts it all together in Google Earth. If you want to know where each image is coming from (such as different servers), on the corner of each image (bottom right hand corner), there is a little copyright information that says where the image is from. Enjoy!

basically, you need a new enough computer for it to work. i dont mean top of the line, but something that can easily run windows XP. and a newer browser, like explorer 7 or maybe, maybe the newest version of mozilla.
you need to download it from google.com/ and then run the file you downloaded to install it. then follow their directions.
EDIT
im sorry if thta wasnt the question. i think it is a system of sattelite data that is all recorded by google, and fed via the internet to the software. im not positive though.

all it is is just satellite pictures taken and melded together. I tried it and it is awesome. You know they have the technology for the satellite to get a picture of you and read your newspaper.\

Google is not tied in to the Satellite. The pictures are from a server and you would not be able to get in.
