im one of four heirs of an estate, but im in place of my mother per ohio state law. im in ca and dont know whats happening. all i know is theres court dates and loans from the estate going to all but me. there is a music business (coin-op) and some property involved. the other three heirs all have diff stories to tell but all want me to give up my shares of stock. not sure what to do cause im so far away. at first i didnt care but seeing them all act like they are makes me want to collect whats rightfully mine. what should i do ? and is the way i feel right? i did know them while my mother was alive but since her passing they chose to go there own way.

It will depend on the laws of the State of Ohio, but if there is no surviving spouse, likely, you are entitled to 1/4 of the estate proceeds, should there be any remaining after debt is paid.

I had a similar situation with the estate of my Grandmother who live thousands of miles away and my half-siblings wanted me to give over my share of her estate..at first I didn't care but as time went on I felt it was only right that I claim what is mine. I went on the internet and found a lawyer in another state who agreed to take the matter on a contingency basis (33%-40% of the proceeds) and he fought for, and won, my case for the real estate involved, which equalled a few thousand dollars.

If you want to do the same though, be sure you want to sever all ties to your siblings as that is what I had to do with my half-siblings to stay sane and make them deal with me only through the lawyer.

Good luck!

the best thing you can do is get the name and number of the estate lawyer. You have every right to have that info. Then give the lawyer a call and ask him what is going on. Don't give up what is yours. Your relatives are being selfish to ask you to. You are part of the family, and if your mom was still here she would be getting it. Good luck

ps: since the estate is paying for the lawyer, and you are a beneficiary he is technically working for you too..

You should find out who is handling the estate and make a phone call. You may possibly have to travel there. Find out exactly what the real story is and absolutely inherit what is supposed to be yours. Get on it. Greed is a quick ugly thing! You wait, you miss out! If your mom wanted you to have a fair portion, than see to it that it's exactly what happens. Sorry for your loss.

Contact the Lawyer that helped make the will.
I wouldn't stand by and let them destroy everything that was made.
What would your mother want.

Follow your heart.

best wishes.
I think I'd make time for that trip.

Get an attorney, dont make the decision without legal advice first.

don't let the other heirs steal it from you...
Pay attention..
Contact the estate executor and find out what is going on.
