Hi, I'm graduating from college and moving to New York in July. Really excited about it. I'm trying to figure out where I'm gonna look for apartments.

Some of the things I'm looking for:
* Per-person rent of $1500 or less (I'd like to have roommates at least at the start, the city can be a lonely place I bet!)
* Within 30 minutes of Fulton St./Broadway-Nassau station (in the Financial District)
* Relatively 'tame' neighborhood; low crime; quietish (for NY anyway)
* Conveniences: good subway service, nearby stores, etc.
* Lots of young professionals; good single scene for 20-somethings (lots of single girls would be awesome)

Thanks for your help!!

Like I said, I'm going to be living with roommates.

If you're able to pay $1500 per person you can practically live anywhere as long as you have one or two roommates but I recommend Brooklyn. Brooklyn Heights, Carroll Gardens and Cobble Hill are nice neighborhoods just over the East River in but a bit expensive. Park Slope is very popular and right on Prospect Park. All those neighborhood have everything you listed but you will need at least one roommate to afford those areas.

*If you want to live alone for $1500 and under, you may have to remove the part about 'Relatively 'tame' neighborhood; low crime; quietish'

$1500 a month is going to get you a garage space of 2'x2', welcome to "Manhattan".
