Ingredients:
1 lb Russet baking potatoes, peeled and grated
3 Tbsp olive oil
Salt and pepper
Equipment needed:
Large stick-free frying pan (at least a 9" diameter bottom)
Potato ricer
Heat 3 tablespoons of olive oil in a large stick-free frying pan on medium high heat.
While the pan is heating, use a potato ricer much like you would a garlic press, and press out as much moisture as you can from the grated potatoes. If you don't have a ricer, you can use paper towels to absorb some of the moisture from the grated potatoes, but it doesn't work nearly as well.
When the oil heats up to the point of shimmering, but not smoking, add the grated potatoes. Spread the potatoes out along the bottom of the pan. They should not be too thick in any one place, no more than 1/2 inch thick. Sprinkle some salt and pepper on the poatoes. After a few minutes, lift up one edge of the potatoes and see how done they are. When they have fried to a golden brown they are ready to flip. Use a large spatula to flip the potatoes over all at once, or divide the large potato cake into halves or quarters and flip. Again, when golden brown, they are ready to serve.

You can start with raw or preboiled potatoes. Either way first you sliced or dice or grate your potatoes. Then melt butter(not margarine or oil) in a fry pan. Lots of butter and when melted throw in the potatoes. Continue cooking over low heat until the potatoes are brown on one side and then flip. Cook until the other side is brown and they're ready. Salt immediately upon removal from pan. Add pepper if you like. The potatoes take from 3 to 10 minutes on each side depending on the fire and the pan.
Preboiled will cook faster. You can mix the potatoes with onions if you like.
Practice a couple of times and you'll get the hang of it.

By the way, you cannot get good hash browns in hell. They burn them beyond recognition there.

Wash whole potatoes with only water. Slice them thinly with peel still on. Place as many as you think you will need in a frying pan. Add sliced onions if you like onions. Add salt and pepper and a stick of butter or margarine, cover and fry until golden brown or until dark brown and crunchy, depending on how you want them, there really is no wrong way. If all else fails you can buy about 30 hashbrown patties in the store for about $3.00 that you fry in oil yourself.

After using a grater on potatoes they are ready for the frying pan coat the bottom of the pan with vegetable oil let it heat up then hand drop the shredded potatoes in. spread them flat and fry. once brown on the underside flip them over. Do not add salt until they are done as it will break down the oil.Best done in a good Teflon coated pan.

What is really good is to take boiled potatoes and cube them in small square cubes (or as close as you can get to that) melt some butter in frying pan a couple table spoons full and put the potato in and cook them to your desired color. keep stirring them in the pan as they cook

After you grate them, add a little garlic powder, not to much. Put them in a little oil, in a pan and fry them for a little bit on one site, turn over and fry the other side. Make sure they are a golden brown. Hope this helps.

bake potatoes (in the microwave for 7 mins each or in the oven for 1hour) the night before you want hashbrowns for breakfast
cut up the potatoes in the morning
fry in a med high frying pan with butter
season with salt and pepper

Table spoon of oil of your choice hot skillet salt and pepper and throw shreds in and leave alone for a few minutes then should fuse together and then flip cook for a few more minutes!
