Stopping a panic attack is very simple. All you have to do is stop the emergency message from being sent to your adrenal glands. Learn these four simple steps and your panic attack will only last for three minutes. Once you understand how this works, you never have to have a panic attack again.
1. Relax.
2. Stop Negative Thinking.
3. Use Coping Statements.
4. Accept Your Feeling

Relax by taking slow, deep, complete breaths. Calm yourself by remembering that you are only having a panic attack and that nothing more serious is happening to you. Continue to take slow, deep, complete breaths. Slow, deep, complete breaths will relax your body, which is the first step to reversing the release of adrenaline.
Stop negative thinking by shouting the word "STOP!!!" really loud inside your head. By shouting the word "STOP" you are interrupting the emergency message that your brain is sending to your adrenal glands. Often people having a panic attack get into an endless loop repeating the same catastrophic thoughts over and over in their head. Interrupting this endless loop gives you the opportunity to replace the scary message with a calming one.

A coping statement is a positive statement that is at least as strong as the catastrophic statement that you have been scaring yourself with. Replace the negative thought with a positive one. Choose a statement that addresses the negative thought.
For example, if you think that you are having a heart attack (a common fear during a panic attack) then you might be saying something in your head like, "Oh my God, I'm having a heart attack" or, "I'm gonna die, oh my God, I'm gonna die!" After you shout the word "STOP!" immediately replace the fear thought with a positive statement that helps you to cope with the situation, such as "I'm only having a panic attack and it will be over in three minutes if I relax" or, "My fear is making my heart pound harder, my heart is fine."

If you feel afraid hearing footsteps behind you on the street you might say, "I've walked down this street hundreds of times" or, "I walk alone on the street every night when I come home from work; what I hear behind me is someone else who is walking home from work."

Accept Your Feelings

Accepting your feelings is very important. Minimizing this experience usually serves to perpetuate it. Start by identifying what emotion you are feeling. Most panic attacks are caused by the emotion of fear or some variation of fear. Identify the emotion you are feeling and find the reason that you feel it.

Panic attacks are pretty serious if you get them continuously, They have medications that can prevent panic attacks, and that also take care of them when you get them. But the key thing is to try to calm down and stay away from stressful situations. If you have a really bad panic attack, don't be afraid to call 911. I hope this helps.

have your liver checked. meanwhile, do not consume anything containing caffiene.
if your liver is damaged by disease, it is not filtering properly.

diseases that could cause the liver to weaken the filteration process are HBV, HCV, NASH as well a few others.

drink plenty of water. see your doctor. ask him to test you for hepatitis c (as well as others) by actually testing for antibodies-do not let him rely on a standard blood liver panel alone because with hcv, sometimes the alt and ast levels do not show an increase. (it's a natural occurance in those with HCV)

it is thought of (and experienced by many heppers) that if the liver is unable to handle the filteration process, it can actually cause you to store things that would cause an imbalance. proteins consumed, i.e, red meats and others like iron and caffiene can cause a major issue in how the brains chemicals react. not only do you have an issue there (if you have liver disease) but if you have HCV or HBV, the virus also passes the blood brain barrier along with all the toxins your body is unable to filter.

get checked and good luck!

as far as other things causing panic attacks in those without liver disease, it could be brought on by medications (even anti-depressants), hormonal issues, and other drugs like alcohol. it could even be brought on by something youv'e inhaled, ie,evnvironmental pollution that you are allergic to.

i know it's hard to do, but when you do have a panic attack, remove yourself from the area your in (if your not at home) and find a quiet place you can curl up into a ball by holding your knees close together. fans also help if your directly able to place one infront of you. rolling up tightly into a sheet or blanket also helps. whatever you do, try to remember that there are some chemicals bouncing around and miscommunicating in the brain (usually brought on by something foreign in the body). try not to hyperventalate, because that will make the attack worse.

I know it's easier said than done, but I've been there. My issue was liver disease (hcv)-almost 30 years of infection prior to treatment.

hugs,
stephanie

Unfortunately if panic attacks are frequent, medications will help, such as paxil. I have attacks also, I have found that positive thinking, slow breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth will help relax. Also breathing in a paper bag will help during the attack to stop the hyperventilation.

Regarding dietary solutions, avoid caffeine. High concentrations can contribute to panic attacks.

I wish I knew that answer but unfortunately I use Prozac and Ativan so I guess if you are looking for a non-medicinal cure, I can't help you.
