Another thing to consider.
In Virginia, there is an organization called Stop Child (Sexual) Abuse Now or SCAN. They offer free consulting to victims of sexual abuse and will teach the parent(s) how to work with the child.
And they work with local police to develop a process so that when a sex victim comes in - evidence is taken and an interview is held in such a way that the victim does not have to re-live the event because of being interrogated by several people (one at a time). One interview and its done.
There are over 100 SCAN offices across the nation. Many work in such a way that they serve multiple locations (towns, counties,)

the statute of limitations is very broad regarding serious crimes such as rape. Because of the nature of sensitive evidence disappearing, it should be reported immediately. The strength of the case will diminish over time, that is why hard evidence is so crucial, I am assuming there were no witnesses to this. Report it immediately. If a rapist is not caught or charged, he wil continue- and hopefully not with someone you know or love.

The longer you wait, the less credible you will seem to the prosecutor. Also, the perpetrator will continue to be free to do it again to someone else.
Don't rely on the statute of limitations to influence your decision if you are the victim.
If you are the perpetrator, then you get to worry for the next 5 years and you can anticipate being charged with, rape, assault, forcible confinement and a host of other felonies.

In Canada you can report anytime. But the sooner the better because they may stike again and why give a pervert the power.

it should be reported immediately--do not shower, do not chage your panties--nothing this is needed for evidence. If you are asked to go to the hospital and get checked out do so----------if you refuse then cops/people are not going to take you seriously, and should something like this ever happen again--------they will say here we go again as they will doubt everything you say.
