Lifestyle? Well, some of us who close go out for last call at bars that are open later, or go to after bar parties to unwind.
Working in a high paced atmosphere, like a busy bar or pub tends to have alot of us really wound up by the end of the night. And, at 1 or 2 in the morning, there is no one awake at home to hang out with, so it is nice to go out with friends from work, who shared the same night, and just chit chat over a beer.

I agree with brusts4 comments. Great when younger, I lasted tended bar when I was 30, was fun lifestyle. I last worked in the downtown Austin scene worked night shifts. Like Rik said, busy bar we would be wound up at 3 AM when we got done closing, then it was to someone place's for drinking or late nite food, either way it was getting in at sunrise most of the time. There can be the opportunity to really addicted to the lifestyle and fun - drinking/drugs, have to watch out for that, saw some that couldn't stay out of the candy jar.

If you're single, it's a great thing. You make good money that goes into your pocket as opposed to the governments pocket, you get to hang out with people all day and afterwards, go to after hour places to cool off and enjoy what you've had on your hands all day. If you're attached to someone, it takes allot of work to keep her or him. My girlfriend usually goes to bed early in the evening so she can wake up for a few hours when I get home and we can spend some time together. It takes a large bite out of your social life to. It's hard to go out drinking with the boys when you're serving others doing the same thing. And you find out pretty quick who your real friends are. You'll get buddies coming in asking for free rounds all night. You're always being watched in this industry so you can't hand out free drinks all night. And be prepared to be pulled over allot if you drive home. Cops are bored at two in the morning. You'll stink of rancid beer and they'll think they got you. If you do your job right, you'll have none in your system and it's always funny to say "See, told you so, can I go to sleep now?" All in all it's a fun job and one I've had and loved for some time. But long term thinking is to open up my own place and pay others to sacrifice allot for $6.75 an hour.

A GREAT lifestyle for a young single guy or girl. Not so great when you get around marriage age. Been there done that, got more girls than i care to (or can) remember and married one that I DIDN'T meet there.

Mine wasn't exactly glamorous. Go to work at 5, get home around 2 a.m., have a few beers, go to bed at 3 a.m., get up at 10 a.m., go to my day job, then go back to the bar.
When I look back on it, I'm not sure where I got the energy for those hours. Maybe I'm getting old? ;)

I was one part time. It was no different than my job at the grocery store. Just had to work later hours and the smell of stale beer is even more annoying.
