you can find this dog x's 100 at any humane society and shelter across the country. go there and let them get basic info from you and can match you to your perfect pet. just know that any dog will require training on your part. you must be prepared to pay for vet care, premuim food, toys, crate, leash, collar, etc.....plus socialization, training and plenty of exercise, walking at least twice a day. if you are prepared for this then you might want a dog. but needing a dog, is not something anyone needs. you must want to devote the time a dog takes to make it a great pet. good luck to you.

The best advice I can give you (from my own experience) is to adopt a dog from a pound/shelter. If you obtain one from a local animal shelter/pound in your area, that is say, a mixed breed and not necessarily a young puppy, you will have a friend for life. So will your family. These animals seem to appreciate a home more than any others. Many are already house broken and just dying to give and receive love. Check them out - your local animal rescue shelters and pounds should have on-line sites for you to browse or you could just check on-line for anywhere if you are willing to travel. Oh, also, the animal pounds' often will pay the cost of spaying/neutering the pet as well, a thank you for adopting bonus. Best of luck to you.

With the exception of some of those breeds of dogs with nasty reputations, any well cared for and properly trained dog will be friendly with properly trained children.
Just keep in mind the physical size of your children compared to your intended dog as most kids like to help with the dog particularly when it comes to bathtimes or playing and a big dog with little kids can lead to a few unintentional accidents.

A dashaund or mini dashaund, their little and friendly, just remember with any pup they always have the urge to chew,so always have toys,so they wont your kids hands for a few weeks thats their way of playing, and potty training, the vet says, keep in a kennel all night in your room where they can see you, then take them out when they start getting restless to go potty, its the best way till they learn, its alot of work, you have to wake up nights like a new born baby.

Dont listen to the guy who said St Bernard! If you have kids, they are good with them yes, but you have to spend so much time with them they are more like kids themselves. They are good with kids, but it takes careful training because the dog doesnt realize dog=big, kid=small dog+kid=crying/hurt kid
I have a St. Bernard and he has to be watched very very carefully arounf kids cause he will try and play, and his play is too rough. not his fault, hes just big. so unless you have the time to sit around and watch your kid and a bernard play...its not the dog for you. also dont forget huge dog=huge bills. My bernard is going to get neutered this month....400$ (canadian) cause he is so big. also, because they are a giant breed they need very very high quality(expensive) food or they will not grow properly and get very very sick...leading to more huge vet bills....
I would say maybe a lab or a retriever...they are good with kids and lots of fun to grow up with.

A labrador is a brilliant dog. they are great with kids and are very loyal. I have a husky but if you are a first time dog owner i wouldn't recommend one. they are alot of work and demand constant attention, but a beautiful friendly affectionate dog also.

you don't NEED a dog. do you have time and money for one? can you spend time housebreaking him? paying vet bills? feeding good food? playing with him? no dog is perfect, and will require hours of training and play time, especially labs, etc. research a lot, and figure out if you have the time and resources to have a dog.
