Well, for starters, everybody is too hung up about how they were fighting dogs, and don't even understand the true history of the breed, and then there is the Press. When a dalmation bites or even kills the owner it might get a small, little, back page article in the paper, but when a Pitbull so much as scratches someone, there is a lawsuit and a frontpage cover story on multiple newspapers. Now, little people also know the the Pitbull was the breed that symbolized "Neutrality In War"...for the U.S.A....the Pitbull was the most decorated war dog and many died along with the soldiers in WWI. The Pitbull also scored 1st on the temperament test. According to the American Canine Temperament Testing Association, 95% of the American Pit Bull Terriers that took its temperament test passed, compared to a 77% passing rate for all breeds on average. Furthermore, APBTs had a passing rate that was the fourth highest of all 122 breeds tested.

If you love the breed, I recently made a website and forum (listed below) to support the breed. We'd love to get more Pit lovers!

How many times do you hear on the news a dalmation, or any "family dog' as bitten someone no matter how bad. A pit bull can bark thru a fence at someone it's all over the news pit attack. At a dog park here a small toy dog ran up to a pit bull and bit him so bad he need stiches. The little dog tried to bite agin and got bit, not bad no blood. In the news Pit bull attacks small dog. The owenr of the small dog was so mad he called the station and complained. " Do you think anyone will beleive a toy dog attacked and hurt a pitbull." They were not going to tell the turth till they found out that the two owners and two wittnesses, me one of them, had been a interview with one of the other news teams. Now they want to do the right thing. This happens all the time. Pit bulls big news any other dog attack not big news.
In all fairness a dalmation as a 81% test score in temperment tests. The ATTS test and scores dogs in temperment and used to be used by the insurance co. to determan when a breed need to have a higher charge. They seem to use the media now.

excuse me but are dalmations capable of tearing an arm off your body ? Everybody seems to be missing the point here . It is not the dog it is the damage the dog is capable of . Yes any breed can bite but I would much rather deal with an bite on my arm or ankle ,than having my arm removed from my body . That is the point people are trying to make is the damage that these dogs can do to a human being . good luck .

because dalmations, or damnations as i call them were in a cute movie. any dog that has a tooth can bite. it's the owners and the media that have brought down pit bulls. in the 1950's the pit bull or type of dog was the #1 family dog, and held the same spot a lab does today. the famous dog in the rascals was none other than a pit! helen keller chose a pit as her family dog, now how about that? people choose to ignore these facts. bless you.

Where did you find that statistic??

Insurance companies are on top of statistics and bite claims and hospital incidents. They won't insure homes where pits are because they are far more dangerous than dalmations.
I have yet to hear of a dalmation being on an insurance company's bad list.

Dalmations are very protective dogs pit bulls were bred to kill the word Pit refer to their jaws just like a snake(a pit viper) a pit bull will bite and his jaw will lock until whatever he has a hold of dies Thats why you see in the news when there is a attack someone has to beat the dog to make him let go! They were bred to fight along time ago and I agree with the ban! Where I live we have a bunch of pit viper snakes how about i bring them into your neighborhood and let your kids walk by them every day!

And where did you get that bit of info from... I bet it wasnt a reliable source as all of the accredited sources that I have looked up regarding dog attacks, stock attacks etc have,,, you guessed it pit bulls at the number one offender for both! If I wanted to employ some spin here I would suggest to you that you it is in fact dogs like- spaniels, labradors or any of the other hunting dogs could be labelled the number one biter... if you counted the number of times they retrieved game for their owners.

Pitbull has an agressive name, where dalmation is a friendly name and disney helped it image, where pitbull's image is vicious.

I bet there are much more dalmations around. You can't judge on the amount of bites, if there were 1mill dalmations and 100 bites, while 1000 pit bulls and 99 bites which is the worst breed?

Because the breed is in high demand amongst ignorant people who have no idea how to care for a dog properly and who think it's a good idea to have aggressive dogs. And equally ignorant people who fail to realize the fault lies with the owner, not the breed.
