I have a female chihuahua and at night i put down potty pads because she cant make it all night. she always goes right next to it. sometimes, only an inch away. afterwards, i put the mess on the pad and her too but she still doesnt get it. when she does do it right, i give praise, but it is rare that she does it right. please help!!! i am losing patience, she is housebroken during the day, just not at night.

first throw away the potty pads, they're not working and are a waste of money anyway. get a crate and put her in it at night. a dog will not go where they have to sleep. if she can hold it during the day she can hold it at night for 6-8 hours. just make sure you take her out and she potty's right before bed. be consistant, patient and you'll be fine. as for putting her next to the mess, she's not going to get it unless you catch her in the act. she does not understand why you are putting her next to her mess and yelling. all she knows is you're yelling and she's next to her mess. she does not associate the two. good luck to you.

She is probably standing on the pee pads but her bottom is hanging off the pad and that is why the poop is next to the pad not on it.
