Yes, there are services in Linux too that will help to save power. How it's done, and how/where it is configured depends on your server hardware and on the distribution.
Most common power saving services on Linux:

cpuspeed - a dynamic CPU speed daemon that scales the frequency of modern processors on demand

acpi - The defacto standard. ACPI enables the PC to manage power supply to CPU, HDD, etc., in a specific fashion through the BIOS or the OS.

apm - The former standard of power management for older computers. Not quite up to date but supports a lot of old/legacy hardware.

the motherboard often has settings for this - switch off the monitor, powerdown the harddrive - the "only" problem might be that if the harddrive is powered down then there will be a lage when it powers up again when the next user comes along
