Alot of people think that both kinds of twins run in families, but what really happens is that fraternal twins run in families and identical twins do not (they just happen).

The reason fraternal twins run in families is because dropping two eggs at once (instead of one) is a genetic thing. When both of those eggs get implanted then you have fraternal twins.

Identical twins is when one egg gets implanted and then it splits in half for some reason. This kind of twins is not genetic. That means this can happen to anyone even if there has never been a set of multiples in either side of the family.

Yes, any woman can become pregnant with twins. It is just more likely if twins run in your family. If you haven't started your prenatal care yet, get to the doctor and tell him or her that you are concerned you may be carrying twins, they will look for that on the ultrasound. Good Luck!

It is possible, though not likely. Usually, multiple fetuses are either a genetic trait or a result of using fertility drugs. However, nothing is impossible. Depending on how far along you are, I'd suggest you get the ultrasound just to find out for sure. It may end up being something else, but your OB is the best one to talk to.

it is always possible to have twins even if it doesn't run in your family. do u know if twins runs in the fathers side of the family?? even if they don't it is still possible but the only way to tell is through an ultrasound.

it can happen. the mother carries the traits, or releases 2 eggs at once. dad has nothing to do with it. depending on how far along you are you should have had an ultrasound if you are big. ask the doc, and prepare for twins. congrats!

Yes you can. Twins do not have to run in your family. (Fraternal twins, which are the only hereditary twins). And Identical twins are a freak of nature, they can happen to anyone, at any time, for any reason lol.

I had ID twins at 22.

Yes if it is in the babies fathers family and even if it is not you can still have twins . Most likley though your doctor would say something cause they would find some of your test levels higher then normal when they have done blood tests . Ultra sounds usually just comfirm if the doctor is right or not .

Yes you can. If you drop two eggs or if you egg separates and turns into two. My friend and I got preg. at the same time. She was twice the size of me by 4 months. She ended up having twins. So it is a possibility.

Why haven't you had an ultrasound. If you have one, you will be so much happier and not worry so much
