It may be your "mentor"=== meaning, it is your focusing tool- like some people need coffee to get awake- a little alcohol gets you going.

If the alcohol is whisky, which is extracted from malt, the blood vessels in your brain dilate increasing flow and your ability to use theta brain waves is enhanced, that is the intuitive thinking brain waves. Of course if you exceed beyond a certain level of alcohol extracted even from malt, the brain activity though continuing will not have an effect of increasing theta brain waves but instead dull the brain. All other ethyl alcohol extractions have various other attributes and effects. Example alcohol extracted from molasses, eg. Rum heatens your blood and though increasing brain activity by dilating the blood vessels similarly, does not enhance the theta state so much so that the body is overridden by effect of hot blood. The balance scales favour the body (muscle) rather than the brain in case of rum. That is why during the IInd World War mules and horses were given a daily quota of rum, as also the soldiers who were going into battle. The officers consumed whisky.
