I am trying to scan slides with my scanner and I dont know which side is the front. Is the front the side with the date stamped or the kodak brand name? They are really old pictures so I dont know which direction they are supposed to go in the first place. Or are all slides different and there is no way to tell?

The front of the slide will typically look a bit shinier than the opposite side (where the emulsion is) there is not much difference but if you look closely you'll see a slight difference the back side just a bit dull.

Once you determine that, you can assume based on the stamps on the slides. No all slides are not different, other than the type of emulsion used, the photo sensitive coating that is.

In addition to the above:

I found on my Nikon Coolscan that you should put the brand name on the mount down - facing the table.

Also, it is easier to insert the slide so that the film is always positioned with the long side running front to back (with the top of the slide on the right hand side) instead of putting it in either horizontal or vertical based on the format of the picture. If you need to rotate the image in Photoshop, then just do that when you are working on the image. I printed a little sample slide with a rede date and all and taped it on the front of the scanner right under the slot so I don't forget!

Matte side of the film itself is the back, glossy side is the front.

an accurate way is to actually start the projector and see for the clues in the picture itself such as words or something that can b differentiated.
