LCD has Better Color Clarity and resolution(Personally).
I spent over 2 months researching which would suit my needs better.
I heard stuff about Plasma and LCD-Good,Bad & Indiffernet!
From Negative Points on Plasma= Screen needs re-gassing after 7 Years of use.Screen Burn and screen far to reflective for Home Use.

LCD= 200,000 Hours Run time(Which Translates to about 19 years of Household use!)
Far superior Screen Clarity and NO reflectivity!!(Even in direct Sun light!).

I opted after many hours of reading for LCD-I chose the Panasonic Viera 32 Inch.
They have 5 Years of Technology built in(So there's No need to rush down to the store to update it after 2 years!)
It comes with 2 HDMI, High Definition inputs as well as 2 Euro Scarts and Composite Video inputs.

In High Definition Mode it is Truely Wonderful!, and as a Mirrored Monitor for My Home Computer System-It's second-to-none!!

The Color and Picture are outstanding(Sounds Not too Great, but I source the sound through a Home Audio System anyway).

The Prcies have drastically reduced since I bought mine in May '06, and you can get some great Guarantees as well if you shop around.

Firstly LCD has been around for a long time.

LCD technology has been around for a long time. I have laptops that have been built in 1995 with LCD's still in perfect working condition.

LCD uses less power. LCD does not surfer from burn in.
LCD uses less power (About 1/3 of what plasma the same size would use.

Needless what other people have heard LCD do not have bad viewing angles most lcd tv screens are perfectly viewable form any angle to 178 degree (180 would be standing right next to the tv which would make it impossible to see the screen)

There are only so many LCD panel manufacturers in the world so the chances are that even the crappy off brand tv has a decent lcd panel in it.

The latest and the greatest LCD's today come in 1080P or 720P resolution which make these High Definition quality screens. Do not buy anything less than 720P.

Plasma is cheaper alternative. Plasma is also available in larger sizes. LCD panels are more expensive to produce but will outlast a plasma any day. (Unless you get a bad one)

It's all down to personal preference and where you're going to be watching TV. If you have a dark TV room and want a screen over 42"... go for a plasma. If you have a light TV room or want something smaller than 42" go for LCD.

LCDs tend to be cheaper and more reliable. There are also some full HD LCDs on the market now, so the picture quality is much improved from the old pixelated pictures that gave LCDs a bad name when they came out.

If you're set on a plasma, buy a Panasonic with a five year warranty. They're pricey but they're the best.

If you'd rather go with LCD, there are a lot of excellent models on the market. Samsung do dozens of 40" models that have whatever variation you could want.

And the new Sharp XD1E range has full HD resolution, which is very spiffy :)

PLASMA. Since 1999 I have purchased over 200 Plasma TV's (Starting with a Phillips in 1999) Over 50 LCD's and 5 DLP's for Nightclubs. STAY away from DLP!
Plasma has a wider viewing angle then LCD.
I completely recommend PANASONIC's PROFESSIONAL line of Plasma's. They currently have a life rating of 60,000 hours. They are also offering a 5 year warranty. I have tried several brands of plasma's and lcd's. STAY AWAY from the off brands. For Plasma go with Panasonic's Professional Line or Phillips.

LCD's "Dirty Little Secret" --- Many of the backlights that light up the screen are VERY expensive to replace or worse can not be replaced.
Reliability I have experienced (with usage being 12-14 hours a day 7 days a week): Have had 10 Plasma's go out within 3 years- They were all Samsung. Have had a Sanyo go out after 4 years. Have had NO problems with Panasonic Professional Series and incidently the Phillips Plasma from 1999 - It was removed from nightclub last summer and now enjoys a easy life in a bartenders guest bedroom though it can be finicky about power on if it has been turned off within the past 30 minutes.

LCD - Have had the backlights go out in less than a year and patrons ***** about reduced viewing angle compared to Plasma.

I am just about to buy an flat panel TV so have been doing a bit of research. LCD's are a bit cheaper and lighter in weight so are easier to wall mount. Plasma's have a good picture too but can get screen burn e.g on digital/satellite channels that have the channel indents in the corner of the screen, like MTV, Sky Sports etc. If you watch a lot of films and not a lot of general TV a plasma would be ok. Also heard that LCD's last longer than plasma's.

Plasma's use a whack more electricity.

LCDs are usually just a little bit more than old Cathode Ray Tube Tvs.

Plasmas tvs are electricity vampires. Your talking about 3 to 5 times more electricity used by a Plasma to the same size LCD. And ofc because of that plasma's have higher carbon emissions too.

Seriously.. do you wanna add £1000+ to your electricity running costs for your plasma tv over space of a few years ?

Up to 46" lcd are far better. Above this some people say plasma have a very slight edge. If you intend gaming on it avoid plasma. The best on the market at present is the Sony Bravia range.

LCD TVs are more expensive, but plasma TVs fade after a few years and how sad is that? The LCD is a much better investment.

Do not buy a TV set now unless it is compatible with High Definition broadcast. A good set that you buy today will probably still be working when the curent broadcast standard is taken off the air.
