no, it's different. You wouldn't "make-out" with your grandma would you? There are different ways and styles.

Snogging = kissing long and hard, lips open etc. (Unromantic word!)
Groping = touching each other all over (the word implies awkward movements, another unromantic word)
Making out = is a US term which just means kissing and cuddling, as far as I know!
