well that depends on whether the dispute was in a vehicle or in a dwelling. Naturally if it were a vehicle, you would pull behind the vehicle slightly to the left with spotlights on, hands ready near your firearm and get prepared for any situation that may arise as you approach the driver of the vehicle. If you are approaching a dwelling you would listen to any noise that may be coming from the house and you would analyze the scene before making a decision to enter on your own or call for back up as domestic disputes can be very deadly and unpredictable.

Uually with siren off and park so the vehicle can be used as a sheild if needed on an angle with front pointed toward street. As you approach you would be scanning for weapons and or animals that may be visable(do not get tunnel vision by focusing only on the couple), walk in an authoratative but non-threatening manor, and always leave yourself an out (never let anyone or anything get between yourself and the door).

you just observe first of what is happening if it is really a domestic dispute because ;you can not just enter the the house or yard of those concern people. when the aggrieved party will call for police assistance, there you may enter for possible settlement, if not bring them to the police office for further questioning about their problem

Yrs ago 1 trooper would walk up to their door and tell they to shut up and go to bed or he would lock them up.

today the house would get hit with a 20 man swat team and everyone would get tazered, maybe a couple people clubed or shot.-, then after the cops stood around for an hr patting them selves on the back, everyone not in the hospital would go to jail
Just watch COPS

If you aren't an officer why are you on patrol??

You have no authority. The best thing you can do is call the police and stay out of it!

Domestic violence calls are some of the most dangerous calls the police respond to, and you should not be!

Very cautiously, because second to traffic stops, more officers have been killed, or injured in such cases.
