SGPT stands for serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase which is a really long name for an enzyme that is found primarily in the liver but in other tissues as well (such as muscle). In the US, it is more commonly referred to as alanine aminotransferase or ALT. ALT levels can be increased when there is injury to the liver, and the degree to which it is elevated can give some idea of the severity of the injury. Causes of this include viral hepatitis, alcohol use, injury from medications (such as Tylenol or certain cholesterol drugs) or toxins (such as certain types of mushrooms), mononucleosis, gallstones, etc.

Without seeing how high the ALT is, seeing what your other blood tests show, or taking a more complete history and doing a physical exam, it is impossible to say what the risk is to you. It may be nothing to worry about, or you may need more tests. I recommend you consult your physician about this.
