Rookies use a jigger, give a pour the three count. When pouring from a spout. Saying 1 Thousand 1, 1 thousand 2, 1 thousand 3 will pour you 2 ounces.

Good bartenders can just look and tell when there is enough poured. They can also pour into a shaker and not waste the leftover.

to correctly measure the amount of alcohol to put into a drink.

Most professional bar tenders can eyeball this, but for home use a jigger is used.

When learning to bartend, bartenders use a jigger to practice with.

The most common reason bar tenders get fired is because they are either pouring too much or not enough alcohol into the drinks.

its for measuring out amounts of alcohol. usually the small side is 3/4 of an ounce and the large side is 1 1/4 ounce making the whole jigger 2 ounces= the amount of alcohol in most standard drinks.

Crate and Barrel usually has some nice, cheap ones; you can find them in the store or online. Also, William's Sonoma had some a couple of years ago, but I'm pretty sure they only sold them online.
