Then mankind and all the angels would have served God out of fear not love. Satan accused God of not being just when God excluded Satan from heaven after Satan sinned. Satan declared that the law of God could not be kept. If God had just "smited" Satan, the rest of the angels would fear God and serve Him out of fear. Worse yet, they would wonder if Satan was right all along.

To prove that He is just and loving, God chose to vindicate His name by dealing with sin in an open experimental way. Satan was allowed to show his form of government on this earth. The angels and the surrounding universe were allowed to see the result of sin. God showed His love in sending Jesus to die for us. Satan showed his hatred for God by inciting men to kill the Messiah. The true character of Satan was unmasked, and he is revealed as the liar and murdered that he really is. God has given mankind every opportunity to develop a saving relationship with Him. In the end sin will be destroyed along with all those sinners who insist on clinging to their sin instead of accepting the lifeline that God has thrown to them in Jesus Christ. Jesus lived a life of perfect obedience to the very law that Satan claimed could not be kept. Thus all Satan's lies about God are proved to be false and God's name is vindicated.

Not just yet-
Lucifer had free will, but I bet he knew what was gonna happen later on. Yup, when everything ends, Lucifer will be thrown into the lake of fire.
Same concept: when we sin, worse still when we know it's a sin but we still do it, God won't smite us. But there will be consequences. The only difference is, he gives us an endless number of chances. He gives us endless opportunities to start over.
Thank God.

I've asked myself that a million times. It would have stopped a lot of pain and suffering, wouldn't it? I suppose the best answer is that God said His thoughts are above ours - we can't understand why He does what He does or how He thinks. But, it's a good thing I wasn't God even for an hour because I would have destroyed the entire planet and everything on it.

Because there is no Lucifer to smite, and no God to do the smiting.

It's a fable man, it's one big fable.

Good question dude. Instead, he decided to employ him. He's merciful and all, you know. So he gave him the job of ruling over Earth and tempting all the souls to weed out the unworthies. Lucifer has turned out to be a model employee.
