I am 17 years old, I am 5"7, and 84 pounds, and I am a cheerleader.
I eat normally, 3 meals a day, and I take in at least 1,200 calories a day. I exercise one hour a day, and I drink a lot of water, and I don't drink soda. I don't eat junk either.
If you saw me, would you say I was too skinny, or just fine?
I do see ribs coming out from my body.

If you calculate your BMI, you are at 13% body fat. That is underweight. A healthy amount of calories for someone as active as you are should be about 2,000 calories, so you are about 800 calories per day short. Your ideal weight range should be between 120 and 150 pounds according to "normal" BMI. Try eating additional calories from healthy foods each day.

Personally, it is difficult to judge just by numbers. What is a good weight for one person, may be to much or to little for another. Normally, the average weight for a girl 5'7" would be higher than 84. Best person to ask is a nutritionist or doctor. You may be doing everything right, but it would be good to make sure you don't have some health issues that are being overlooked because you are slender. It would seem to me that you could be underweight - but check with an expert first.

You sound concerned for the reason to be asking - at 1200 calories a day, it sounds like you are not eating enough for a developing girl of 17, especially for being so active.

Check with a doctor/school nurse to be sure.

I would probably regard you as too thin. You should try getting 2000 calories a day. You might be hypermetobolic and in danger of becoming anemic. I would ask your doctor if you are okay.

Also, you are only 17. While most women are fully grown and developed by 17, you may not be. You may grow and fill out a little in the next few years.

If you are healthy, then you should count your blessings that you are envied by many women! Congrats!! :)

At 5'7", less than 100 lbs. is really too little. I assume you feel okay, but when you are underweight, you are not as healthy and strong as you could be. If you have more muscle, you are not only more able to do things, but a lot less likely to get injured. If you have a little more fat on you, you might look healthier. Guys tend to like curvy women. 1200 cals. isn't much for an active 17 year old. How about adding some whole wheat bread and fruit to your diet? Do you know who Gabriele Reese is? How much does she weigh?

At age 17 you have a High metabolism !! 84 pounds is kinda light but you may have a small frame for your height !! Dont change anything, as you get older you will get heavier as your bones thicken. You are probably too thin for good overall health. If you calculate your BMI (body mass index) you are 13.1. Is there a chance you have an eating disorder? Could you increase your caloric intake to 2000 or 2500 calories? You are about 40 pounds underweight and may want to seek help.

Put it this way, I'm 178lbs right now and I'm 5'. I'm supposed to be between 100-137lbs. So for your height you need to be, I would say at least 110lbs. Because for your heighth, I bet you wouldn't look terrible, especially because you are so tall. Your heighth evens it out. Because I'm short, my weight shows. And especially if you see ribs, that is not a good thing. Personally, you shouldn't worry about gaining an extra 20lbs because your so active, and you have a very healthy diet.

Sounds pretty skinny. At 5'7 you should weigh at least 105. But it sounds like you are health conscious so it's probably just natural for you to be thin. Enjoy it. At least it's not the opposite.
