Are you sure he doen't;t like her or does he say that to YOU? If you are a friend to him you will ask why he's unhappy w/ her. And if you really don't know either one of the couple closely. then start being a little more friendlier and see if he's interested in you. Cause he might not be. If all attempts fail to get him to notice your being. Then some people that don't want help out of those kind of relationship aren't gonna look for one. It depend on how you are. If your quiet type then just smile at him and wave when you see him. If you are a little more outgoing then tell him privately face-to face. <---- this only works if you think he might like you too, or your not afraid of rejection. In these cases its best to be prepared for the worst. And if you don't think you can handle rejection then don't say a thing and find someone else. mind over matter. Take him outta your mind by spending time doing something else. BUT if you think the feeling is mutual then let him know face-to-face. no letters or anything because the g/f might find it and she'd put him on a guilt trip and that kind of sloppiness from you will only bring them together.--->and you don't want that. No you shouldn't ask at all. The only reason he would say that he didn't like his girlfriend is because he knows that that is a way to cheat with an excuse that would satisfy the other woman's conscious. If he doesn't like her so much then why is he with her? Do they have kids together or something?! And plus if his girlfriend finds out that would be unnecessary drama and maybe even a beat down!O and if he did break up with her for you, you would be known as the home wrecker!!

This is kinda difficult... for one thing you don't want to be the one to break up a relationship or be the one he cheats with... on the ther hand you cant just let him go like that... Go out with him as friends, be completetly sure he doesn't like her and give him hints about how much you care... then before the date is over or when he drops you off at you place you can kiss him on the cheek like a friend and whisper in his ear "I had a great time, Too bad you are taken" This way you don't make him cheat, you are not askign him to break up with her and you are letting him know you care... besides you get extra points for taking the first step... most guys love this...
