I don't understand how our faith earns us the classification of WORLD CLASS IDIOTS! So many people talk about Christians as if we are complete morons simply based on our religious beliefs. Our actual individual accomplishments aren't even considered.

One reason is that Christians tend to answer every question that comes up as if they know the answer. They don't like to say, "I don't know." Instead they pile precept upon precept and create a philosophy that just doesn't work.

Another reason is that the Christians who get the press by being loud and noisy are the ones who try to make every follow their scruples. They think that everyone must follow whatever they think and are intolerant of people who think differently.

A third reason is that people like Pat Robertson and others proclaim themselves prophets, can't get much right and yet still have large followings that continue to support them no matter what.

Here's another one. Ratiionalization. Many Christians can prove anything using the bible. When the Iraq war started, many told me that since god set up the government, then whatever it did would be right. We'd all have to follow along. Oh, there were exceptions, of course, in the case of Nazi Germany and others that didn't fit their political beliefs. I went to a church once where the minister said that all the mosques should be bombed.

And another thing. There are many Christians these days who can't seem to understand that there may be stories in the bible that don't necessarily try to explain the facts but try to make a point. The story of Adam and Eve for one. Instead of being able to think that this story is meant to make a point, they have to take it literally. And then, as I've been told, people who don't believe it (like me) are going to hell.

And blah blah blah. There are more.

(I don't think all Christians are simpletons. But there are sure a lot of them who seem to be.)

I never thought Christians were simpletons.
But in my experience a lot of Christian people I knew took it personally that I didn't believe in their beliefs. For example the particuliar person would start talking about their faith, their religion, and then ask me about my beliefs. Since I have a different belief system a majority of them took it personally as if I am "wronged" for having my OWN BELIEFS which EVERYONE has a RIGHT TOO!!!! It makes me so mad to think of it and it's very very hurtful the lack of respect I received from Christain people in this manner. It isn't fair.....I have never in my life tried to push my beliefs on anyone. never.
So I don't know where in the world anyone gets off taking it "personally" and getting even teary-eyed just because someone believes DIFFERENTLY than them? It's simply ridiculous.
I try not to generalize, but the truth is, at times it is difficult due to my personal experiences.
And BTW not saying all Christians act like that, just many that I've known or come across have.
I just think everyone should have respect each other regardless of what they believe.
I think about my own accomplishments
I never thought Christians were idiots at all. Just some I've known tend to be very narrow-minded. Not all, but many

Well, for starters you believe in an invisible man that lives in the sky. You believe that he created everything around you and all that is living. You disregard scientific evidence that disproves that those things that you believe in are true. You have chosen faith rather than proof to guide you through life. You have been sold a bill of goods and rather than do some due diligence and see if what you have been taught is true, you simply take it at face value and don't apply any logic or critical thinking to the equation. It is sort of like the people who after being shown that the world was round with scientific proof, continued to believe it was flat simply because they chose to ignore the facts. But all in all, I wouldn't say you were world class idiots... Just intellectually lazy and sort of like a child with an imaginary friend... Not open to any other options.

Because there are a large number of Christians who are loud, arrogant and self-righteous about it.

Do you define yourself by your faith or by your accomplishments? Looking at your name, probably the former - so why expect other people to do differently?

To be fair, it's not just the Christians people feel this way about - but in the English-speaking world, they're the biggest group, so they get the most flak.

Have you been reading the severely uneducated and downright foolish answers and questions that mainly get posed by Xians on this site?

It's little things like "If evolution is real...why are there still monkeys?" Questions that betray such a lack of the most basic knowledge of the world that it's embarrassing. Or the frequent questions about pascal's wager. You'd think if it was shot down the first time...the next guy would check first before he made a fool of himself. But they don't do that. They march on like lemmings spouting the same ignorant and poorly thought out arguments.

How could people not think they were world class idiots?

Why do so many believe believe that we Atheists are so unhappy? I don't understand how our lack of faith and total disbelief earns us the classification of UNHAPPY SUICIDAL DREGS OF SOCIETY! So many people talk about Atheists as if we were the devil incarnate and hell-bound losers simply based on our lack of religious belief. Who we are as people, not as defined by our atheism, isn't even considered.

Now you know how we feel.

Because all religious people place a higher value of FAITH than on reason. Even in the face of evidence, religious people of all "FAITHS" will deny evidence and think that they are more righteous for doing so. They are not more righteous just more superstitious and fearful.

NEWSFLASH...you can do anything you want and "GOD" will not reward or punish you. Try it. Nothing will happen to you and your quality of life won't diminish one bit if you "disobey" nor will it increase by even a little if you obey. PEOPLE will punish you but GOD won't. PEOPLE will fire you from your job or deny you access to information if you are openly gay, athiest, illegal alien, of the wrong religion...etc. But "GOD" could care less. The evidence is in, but you choose FAITH...good for you. Keep it up but a lot of things you have FAITH in are figmations of your imagiment. Keep believing if you want but ignorance and denial of the facts don't do anyone any good.

Am I better than you because I believe in Santa Claus? Is believing in Santa Claus any better than believing in the Easter Bunny or the Great Pumpkin? Is it better to believe strongly unicorns than in dragons? Should a person pray to a jug of milk or to a cup of tea? Is Jesus stronger than Mohammad? If Jesus and Moses had a fight, who would win? All childish questions and equally foolish and superstitious.

So I don't know, why do people think Christians and other dogmatic simpletons are stupid? Just because they think their religion is better than all others? I dunno. Maybe its because by turning their back on scientific evidence, they think they are wise and loyal to their imaginations and will be rewarded when they die. Would they could die today and get their reward now rather than later. What a God that would reward stupidity with harp playing and banquet eating for eternity! So you'd rather spend your eternity eating. I'd rather spend mine sleeping which is exactly what will happen when we die.

Superstitions will sleep also...count on it.

So many answers from christians indicate this.

Many christians do not demonstrate the capacity for individual thought or analysis of their basic beliefs. You j try to justify archaic laws that have no use in modern society without thought or reason.

You put forward so many ideas that are in conflict with other christians and don't eveb seem to realise it.

Probably because most of you guys refuse to believe that other religions can exist outside yourselves. A lot (not all) are closed minded and look down on others. It obviously isnt going to take long for the outsiders to get together and look down on you.

Judgment is wrong no matter who is dishing it out.
