Toyotas are teriffic vehicles, but the Rav-4 isn't really built for heavy duty towing. Heed what the dealer says about weight and distance. If you decide to go ahead with some towing, U-Haul dealers do a nice job installing hitches, but be careful because it can be really hard on your transmission.
If it's a newer vehicle and still has plenty of value, you might want to consider renting a larger U-Haul truck for your stuff and put a one of the car dollies behind to pull the Rav-4 and protect it from damage.

I believe since I had a Rav4L that this is covered in the owners manual or call your Toyota dealer and they will give you the actual specs on the vehicle

According to Toyota, 4 cyl RAV4s are good for 1,500 lbs as the dealer says. 6 cyl RAV4s are good for 2,000 lbs and 6 cyl with the tow prep package are good for 3,500 lbs. They don't specify any distance limits.

Honda element!! hehe No, heavily, between both i'd bypass with the Toyota, the couple of people I knew with Jeeps were always having issues. Toyotas are frequently very reliable.

V6 models (Standard) 2000#
(with Tow Prep Package (V6 only)) 3500#

best place to go for a hitch is U-haul or a customs shop to build you a custom setup
E.G. 4x4's like 4x4 specialties or some performance custom's shop like for me its gravity customs
