why it seems like monks are without spirit of life. or is is just the feeling temporary ?

they protect and conserve their spirit. It's not for show.

I have knoen many monks who enjoy life. They take the attitude that the Buddha never told them to be miserable so they enjoy themselves within the bounds of their beliefs.
