Is this engine swap possible on a nissan frontier?
I own a 98 nissan frontier that I rarely drive, only when I have to help my bum friend move from apt to apt, kidding Tony. I want to perform an engine swap but was wondering what would be the best fit. I know you can swap out a 240sx engine with a sr20det, with some minor modification to the car's tranny and brakes, but would this be possible to do to a frontier? If so has anyone seen this before? Or any other engine swapping suggestions would be appreciated. I'm not sure but I think the frontier and 240sx share a similar engine, a ka24(4cyl) if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks!

If you are going to buy a used engine, anyway, why not just get the proper one for your Frontier. A salvage yard will be able to tell you if one from a 240sx will interchange, or it may be that you can use one from an Altima, or another Nissan. It would be easiest, however, to find your exact engine, no matter what vehicle it came out of. If you have a KA24 now, put another KA24 back in it.

I put a 350 CID Chevy engine in a Datsun. You can probably get a tranny converter for anything to anything. Check the trans spur to make sure it will work, or you may need to swap transmission too! Which would be easier and all you have to do is change the u-joints and shaft length to meet up to your 3rd member.
And before you get another motor make sure it will fit! Don't forget the motor and transmission mounts.
The biggest problem was converting the gages! That was a pain, and I'm an Electrical Engineer.

Have fun! I did, and my Datsun would smoke anyone!

The KA 2.4 engine designed for torque at low rpm's 3.0" bore 3.5" stroke. SR2.0DET is a higher reving engine that has almost no power until the turbo spools up. It will fit and run, you also want to have the ECM and Ingnition transistor and engine wiring harness. If that truck weighed 2,900 pounds the 2.0 turbo engine would be happier. Chevy LS-1 or LS-2 engines might make a fast sleeper. My best reccomendation is leave that 1998 truck stock so it will start. The next time you move friends stuff when he forgets to pay his rent.

yes the american 240sx has a ka24 which is the same truck engine that the Fontier has. The motor mounts are in the same location as are the sr20's. Thats a VERY interesting question which i would like to know. As far as I think yes it could be possible. The only thing that might not be compatable would be the wiring. If noone else can tell you the answer go to www.nissanforums.com and ask the same question.

The motor from the new r35 GTR would never work in a 300zx due to the fact of the rear mounted transmission.
