I had and ear infection and bronchitis so I went and seen the dr. he put me on some good antibiotics (Baxion), now the bronchitis is gone but I still have the ear infection! But today I found out I got my dad sick with bronchitis (while I was sick I wasn't in college and my dad caught it!) so I gave him the rest of my antibiotics and my cough medicine. But my ear still hurts bad so I have some keflex left from a surgrey I had a few months left. Will keflex work for my ear infection? I know the different antibiotics are for different sicknesses. I need a real truthful answer not something that your just pulling out of your butt!

My dad doesn't take anyother medicine, over the counter or anything! He has also taken the exact same dosage that I was given of the exact same stuff, just his was expired. I did not put my dad in any harm. I wasn't asking for full medical advice, I was just curious if the keflex would work or not!

Some antibiotics decompose into bad products- for example, Tetracycline decomposes into a toxin!
Doses of antibiotics are always calculated to the minimum amount needed to kill the bacteria. When you don't finish the course of medication, you not only don't kill the bacteria, you allow it enough time to survive and learn how to fight off the antibiotic, so it becomes resistant to therapy AND you are still contagious. Now you pass along these superbugs to people around you. (This is a global problem!)
SO- NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do NOT take leftover Keflex- because 1)you do not have enough to wipe out an infection, and 2)you do not know if it's decomposed and is an inferior product thjat won't work and could harm you.
Call your doctor and tell him what you did, and get seen, and get on an appropriate course of medication! And then, TAKE IT AS DIRECTED.
Have you ever thought that you may have harmed your dad by giving him medication NOT prescribed to him? In addition to being illegal (you are dispensing medicine without a license)- if he is on any medications that these drugs interact with and has a reaction, you are at fault! That is not a way to treat someone you love. I have seen patients come in with serious heart issues because the OTC meds family gave them reacted with their blood pressure medication. Plus- he did not get enough to cure him, and he MAY have gotten the wrong med for what bacterial infection he had.
Why are you looking for medical advice from amateurs on the internet? Isn't your only body worth taking care of? Get professional help from the doctor who knows you! You are worth it- and so is your family!

What happens if I miss a dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
