we have 7 "modi" in which one they're "tempi".

MODO: INDICATIVO
tempo presente (mangio)
tempo imperfetto (mangiavo)

tempo passato prossimo (ho mangiato)
tempo passato remoto (mangiai)

tempo trapassato prossimo (avevo mangiato)
tempo trapassato remoto (ebbi mangiato)

tempo futuro semplice (mangerò)
tempo futuro anteriore (avrò mangiato)

MODO: CONGIUNTIVO
tempo presente (che io mangi)
tempo passato (che abbia mangiato)

tempo imperfetto (che mangiassi)
tempo trapassato (che avessi mangiato)

MODO: CONDIZIONALE
tempo presente (mangerei)
tempo passato (avrei mangiato)

MODO: IMPERATIVO
tempo presente (mangia!, mangiate!mangiamo!)
tempo futuro (mangerai!, mangerete!, mangeremo!)

There are seven simple and seven compound tenses which are fully conjugated, just as in Spanish and French (but Portuguese has more). Two of these are not tenses, but moods, namely the subjunctive and the conditional, and finally there is the imperative mood for a grand total of 15.

The Italian names are (simple first, then compound):

Presente indicativo & congiuntivo; imperfetto ind. & cong.;
Passato remoto; futuro; condizionale presente;

Passato prossimo & congiuntivo; trapassato pros. & cong.;
Trapassato remoto; futuro anteriore; condizionale passato;

And imperativo.
