I love my absolutely adorable 1 year old main coon mix , to bits, she is a spayed female (spayed as soon as she came to age) and I have raised her since she was 7 weeks old.
Ever since she was a kitten, Lulu (short for Lunatic- because of her hyperactivity as a kitten, not attitude) has always been the type of cat to growl if you pick her up, sometimes even stroking her, I have had blood drawn a number of times and she has bitten quite alot aswell- something as simple as sitting on my lap and stroking her sets her off- I'm not sure why and no calming methods seem to work (praise, quitely and slowly moving) she always seems to have a bad temper- I don't know if this is something I did or if she was merely born this way- can anyone shed any light on this dilema?

She may calm down as she gets older. Some cats just have a lot of energy to expend. Keeping it pent up can make them cranky. Think of yourself being shut in your house for weeks, you'd be going stir crazy ;-) Make sure she gets plenty of exercise and play to work off some tension. I've also noticed, from personal experience, that some animals tend to live up to the name you give them. I called a dog Loco once and boy was she nuts!

Bad personality, I would say. I would try letting her be and see how she wants to do things for a while, then let her do them within bounds.

Your cat suffers from GPD- Grouchy personality disorder. I now an awful lot of Humans like that too.

She may also need some time outside- cats like open spaces and love hunting. perhaps she just needs to work her aggression out on a passing dog or the yard pests.

Sorry I can't be of more help. She'll probably mellow in a few years or so though, most cats do.

You answered your own question, when you said she has always been the type of cat.... Like people animals can have traits that are just part of their makeup, but they will also go as far as you'll let them. When she growls or displays mean behavior squirt her with some water. Just put some water in an old glass cleaner bottle or one like it, and when she misbehaves give her a spray, won't hurt her but she'll get the hint. I have a cat that will also all of a sudden strike out when I am petting him nicely, watch the tail, is it swinging back and forth when this happens (usually a swinging tail means the cats pissed about something!)I dump him off my lap and ignore him for the rest of the day. Animals respect someone they can not walk all over and will walk all over you it you let them. Love them lots, but don't let them get away with bad behavior, but don't hit. Susan Strom

She just has a nasty disposition. Some cats behave that way, no matter what you do. My daughter`s cat was absolutely the most hateful cat I ever saw. She would even bite or scratch you while you were trying to feed her. Even the vet suggested putting her on Prozac. LOL

Maybe its the cats attitude if you tried being nice and she's still mean then i guess she's just like that naturally.

Don't feed her for a day then feed her i bet she'll like you then.
