i drive nothing but fords and each and every ford i drive has over 200k miles on it and still no problems. I had an explorer with 300k miles on it but i got rid of it because it was vandalized. I now drive a 97 t-bird with 114k miles and drive to and from work everyday. I work in an acura dealership and i replace transmissions on acuras with under 50k miles on them

1989 aerostar with 250,000 original trans and engine, 2001 ford focus 105,000 still running as good as the day i got it brand new. 1994 f-150 150,000 tows up the stevens pass a couple times a year, still is a very solid engine and trans never been replaced. 1994 chevy astro with 4.3 L got 100,000 then the trans went out, and then 25,000 later the engine went out so i bought the ford focus. 1989 chevy 1500 120,000 and then the engine went out so i bought my 94 f-150. I am a mechanic so i change my oil every 3000 miles and make sure an follow all the service recommendations. plus the f-150 has been the #1 selling truck for 30 years and there is more f series trucks on the road with 250,000 miles or more. I still own all of the fords that i mentioned above.

Chevy makes a better V-8, Ford has the best Straight 6 on the planet. Dodge looks better, GMC/Chevy Duramax is the best Diesel available, Ford front ends get a little wobbly early but they're simple as a stone to work on. They all use NP transfer cases.
Ford passenger cars are Crap, Chevy's not much better. Mopar's cars have really benefitted from their alliance with DaimlerBenz.
If you MUST go gasoline, get a Ford F-250 with a 300 EFI 6 unless you've got to tow houses around or something. For Diesel, get a GMC Duramax. For passenger cars, go BMW :).

You are asking one of the most disputed matter of opinions in American History. Personally, I've had better Ford vehicles than Chevrolets, but I appreciate the quality of both.
Chevy in general tends to be famous for making interior parts fragile and prone to breaking (gloveboxes, door locks, etc) But Chevy Vortec truck engines are superior to Ford Triton engines.

I would guess whatever you personally prefer.
I myself have driven GM products for 30 yrs and am well satisfied. Never had any engine or transmission problems with any of them. The biggest improvement made is the rust inhibitors that they started using on the underbodies about 1985-86. They just last so much LONGER before the cancer appears.
I have always felt GM makes the superior product of the 2 companies, Ford and GM (Chevrolet Division).
Ford went down the drain after the original founder himself Henry Ford . That man had a vision and cared about his employees and wanted the public to have a great product at an affordable price. His farm machinery business was the same idea.
Seems like all this was lost after his death. Profit before people and product is the rule nowadays, even GM and Chrysler.
The Henry Ford story is a great one to read and learn about if you are a car enthusiast. His invention of the Ford Tractor line and his competitor Ferguson is a great story to read about as well. Harry Ferguson was a great mechanic, and knew a lot about engines and their design, and became a major force for Henry Ford to deal with in the farm tractor market. Both had a superior product . It's a great story of inventions, competition, and success for both men.
I just feel after driving for 30 yrs and observing autos on the road and family members who have owned Fords that GM products have still been the front runner of the "Big 3" manufacturers.
I have had all 3 products over the course of the years, no more Chrysler products, period. I don't feel they are the same since Lee Iaacoca isn't runnning the program any more. More of a profit 1st operation, and quality suffers.
So I would still recommend GM products. Just a long time overall satisfied customer.
The Chevrolet Automoblie Company was founded in 1911 by a man named Louis Chevrolet, and William Durant, the founder of General Motors.
I could say more, but again, the final choice of purchase lies with the individual buyers preference. The overall treatment of the auto by the buyer has a lot to do with its overall performance and longevity. Keep that scheduled maintenance on schedule and use genuine replacement parts. An ounce of prevention is truly worth a pound of cure. If most car drivers would check their autos out daily like a truck driver does by DOT regulations, your autos would break down less often and be even more reliable. Care for your car as you do your own personal needs. It has needs too.
By the way, I have my 1st ever VW, and LOVE IT. Seems to be a well built quality automobile, a diesel. Need I say more?

what a loaded question. of course you asked it in the Ford section. Ask it in the chevy section and watch the answers.
Henry Ford was not the inventor of the automobile. He was a great contributor to the automobile industry. His dream was to make an affordable vehicle.
I have worked on and owned all three of the big three, as well as the other brands and if you maintain them properly, they all work as well. There are differences that need to be considered. But if all you are doing is driving for pleasure then take care of what ever it is that you drive and it will take care of you.

I am an automotive technician and I see very few Fords, aside from the odd small car and van I very few midsized/large cars from them and even fewer trucks. Form what I have seen Ford is the better company, not as much goes wrong with them and they're pattern failures are few, but predictable. I see many Chevrolets at the shop, so many infact that we mays well be a chevrolet repair shop. I see small/midsized/large cars from them all the time, they're vans and trucks i see even more.
I personally am a Mopar (Chrysler) man myself, but I happened upon an 1989 Ford Ranger and it has been nothing but good to me, and I pound it for everything its got, and it still comes back strong every time. I am slowly making the move over to liking Ford better then my life long love for Chrysler, but I know for sure I would never buy a GM because of the amount of problems I see with them (expically the sunfirs, and 1500's). I don't even consider looking at imported cars, they all look the same, and they arn't built for North American driving. I see many imports when it gets cold out, because they won't start. In my opinion, Ford is the best company because of the reduced problems they have. Ford tends to recycle thier vehicles. As in use the same engine in a multitude of vehicles, use the same transmission in a multitude of vehicles, and so on. They use parts that are trusted and last and put them into thier vehicles, when GM tends to experiment with many designs and when there is a flaw (such as the intake manifold in the 3L series) they don't tend to fix them (they have had the same problem in every 3L series engine since they were first intorduced). GM has many patturn failures because of so many designs which makes tracking a paturn failure harder to find, when Ford has fewer problem failures because of fewer designs making htem easier to track.

we've extraordinarily a lot had not something yet Ford or Chevy in our relatives and it type of feels we've better success with Chevys. we do not honest to nicely with Fords, except for the Maverick. i actually have not had a Ford yet, yet my dad hasn't had the nicely acceptable success. Fords are not that undesirable to paintings on, yet Chevys look to nickel and dime you to lack of existence. haha

let's see. I drive 50,000 miles a year. I've owned 4 Chevys. All went over 200000 miles with no major issues. 2 Went over 300000. I bought a Ford 2 years ago. Used 03 Expedition. It's has cost me (no kidding) $12,000 to keep on the road. That's after 150,000. A co-worker has a 99 Suburban. Almost 700,000 miles. Which do I think is better, The answer is clear. Google Ford Spark Plug Blowout.
