Wow...Another partial story teller. A "minor infraction"??? Please. Why don't you do yourself a favor and tell the ENTIRE story, so that you can get real advice or feedback? I'm sure that there is some exaggeration to your story too. I would imagine that if the truth were told, it was probably alot less time, and your "minor" offense was a little more major.

It varies with the state that you are being held in. In Texas, which I believe that pretty much all states have the same guidlines regarding meals in the jail setting, they have to provide food for the inmates three times a day.

However, there is a maximum of fourteen hours in between two meals. Basially, if dinner is served at five in the evening, then they have to serve breakfast no later than seven the next morning.

The officer telling you that was wrong in saying that you did not deserve to eat, however you have to look at it from his point of view. He probably has other inmates hollering all day long about them not getting any food so that they can get an extra tray.

It sounds like you're gathering data for a lawsuit and you're not telling us the whole story...

People aren't arrested for "minor infractions." They can be arrested and taken to jail for misdemeanors, which are not "minor" to say the least. They can also be taken to jail if they have outstanding bench warrants.

In any event, the timing may have been off regarding meal times.

Stop whining and be a good law-abiding citizen...that way you won't have to worry about being fed in jail.

Unless your diabetic, there's not much you can do. In order to have anything done about it you would have to have suffered some kind of injury. Although, it probably wouldn't hurt to have your lawyer/attorney to chastize the shift commander. Unfortunately this is a common practice amoung minor and/or misdemeanor cases cause they figure you're probably getting out sooner than a felon so why waste the money?, right? I mean, after all when you bond out or get time served your going home or someplace to eat, right?

Jails serve meals at pre-set times that work out best for the jail, not the inmates. 10 hours is not an unreasonable amount of time and, where I work, we regularly do not feed inmates who are only held pending a cite release. Sometimes they stay longer than 10 hours. Each state has government and administrative codes that outline the rules relating to jails such as how often you eat, get outside recreation, etc. Do a littel research and I'm sure you can find the laws for your specific state.

There is a simple solution - don't break the law, don't go to jail and you can eat whenever you like.

Yes this is legal. A Jail does not have to feed a new prisoner for up to 12 hours since most are out of jail within that time.

It all depends on what time you were arrested. If it was at 7 PM and they had already had supper, then very possibly it could be 10 hours or more before breakfast.

Depends on the time of day. You will only get fed at regular meal times, morning, noon and evening.
