I have a software already but apparently it isnt compatible to burn my .avi file... I want a free software that can convert my file to whichever file would be compatible to play on a DVD player, and burn it onto a blank DVD disc. any suggestions?

I downloaded a few like Nero 7, Sonic my DVD, and Record now deluxe, I converted my movies before burning them with Xilisoft all of these can be downloaded from limewire or Morpheus and you can get either limewire or Morpheus from downloads.com.. also you have to have a DVD burner hope this helps :)

No burning software will do that! You need a video convertor to convert the avi file to an mpeg file. Do a search for convert avi to mpeg ... then burn the mpeg file onto the blank dvd.
DVD Players can't read any file type except for an mpeg file and I'm pretty sure there aren't any burning softwares that will automatically convert a file to dvd format for you. Sorry.

you will desire to purchase a DVD Burner, you will get a reliable one @ Wal Mart for $50.00 (Lite-On) -- the appropriate are Plextor $one hundred twenty. the least complicated and maximum familiar application for burning is Nero. merely look for the field that proclaims 16x / RW/+R -R or some thing similiar -- this could be a DVD burner (recorder)

Hopefully you'll get an answer that is a workable freeware program for this. I would recommend one that isn't free, but works very well. It's called "Sonic MyDVD" and is available at the below link.

You can try NERO or ROXIO.
However they are not free. But maybe you can download trial version of these softwares. You can google them on the internet.

Try Nero. It's more than a CD/DVD burner. It has more applications for your computer.
