I got braces in Sept & the orthodontist told me I needed them for 2 years. Now, I need to move this September, only a year into treatment. The only reason I would need to stay where I am is for this reason & it isn't enough to make me stay. I have a really great ortho & I think he would understand. Is this easy to do? I am so nervous moving in between treatment & changing doctors. Will the new ortho want to charge me another $4500?? Because the first one put the braces on the top & bottom & would have seen me for a year by the time the 2nd one sees me. Also, do you think the first ortho would want the remaining amount since it is based on seeing him monthly & I would not be seeing him anymore? As I said, this is the only thing worrying me about my move. I wish I had waited to get them put on where I was moving to but that didn't happen. Thanks for your help.

People with braces move all the time. Discuss this with your orthodontist. He might have a colleague in your new town who he can recommend. If they have a good working relationship, they might work out the finances so that it has no impact on you.

If he doesn't actually know someone, he might be able to locate someone who graduated from the same training program that he did so at least they would have the same treatment style. (Yes, there are many kinds of braces, even though they look pretty muchthe same to you.)

As far as who would want how much money, I can't really advise you other than to say you will just have to ask. Everyone feels differently about these things. Personally, I'd say that your treating orthodontist would reduce the fee somewhat because, as you say, it included monthly adjustment visits. You might get as much as $1,000 of your fee back, so it's worth asking!

A dentist usually does not like to take over where another dentist left off. They do not want to get sued for what the other Dentist might of messed up on. YOu get treatment like every 6 weeks right. why not drive those extra miles.
Or speak to your dentist.........
