Completely died? Fergeddit. Sorta dead? Trim off the really brown bits, water ever so lightly, keep in a constant temp (65- 75 degrees) and in non direct light. I wouldn' reccomend fertilizer as it can burn a weak plant.

depends on what kind it is.. my grandmother had a huge spider plant that she was about to throw out cause the entire thing was brown... i read that if you cut it down and/or take off all the dead or dying pieces that it gives the more healthier ones a fighting chance and doesn't keep trying to nurture the bad areas which takes away from what nutrients are available.. anyways, i cut the entire plant down to about an inch high and in no time it was all green and healthy again! Just make sure the soil stays moist. You can even buy plant food. I did this also with a poinsetta from 2 xmas's ago..
but if its completely dead there isn't a thing you can do UNLESS it is one that dies but comes back the next year.. find out what it is and if its an annual or perennial and go from there... it may have just been time for it to die in order for it to come back next year!
good luck!!
oh! and this might sound silly but talk to it or keep it in an area of lots of gatherings or talking as the carbon dioxide we exhale helps it "breathe" and it returns the favor by giving off fresh oxygen! LOL <--- silly i know but it does help!

Trim all the dead material above the ground. Keep the soil around the root moist but not wet. Add a small drop or 2 of root stimulator, and hopefully if there is any life in the root you will get a slow recovery. Be patient. Depending on plant it may take 60 days to get any kind of sign of life

Dead is dead . . . unless you are the Messiah!
If your plant has just wilted, then add water. You can check the plant to see if it has any living tissue by breaking off a stem and see if it is "fresh" inside (still alive) or brown and dry (totally dead). If it is totally dead, then say a prayer and give it a decent burial.

I've seen ET bring flowers back to life. If you can find him, you're in business.
