Oh, here is one that you liberals will love.... I think it is wrong... Let's see. More science and research means the preservation of more humans on earth.... more people... more mouths to feed.. more human waste, filth, poverty, crime, overpopulation, destruction of nature...on and on and on...no thanks.... no stem cell research for me.... In fact, no innovations that would allow people to live longer, better, faster, more...no not for me.. no thank you.

I am all for it! My reason, I am a type 1 diabetic, open-minded, aware of the magnitude stem cell research has on western medicine and attended a funeral this week for a lovely woman who lost her fight with cancer. I realize the moral objection but ponder what Bush and all other objectors would vote if they had a very close loved one with terminal cancer or another disease that could be cured with stem cell transplantation. I also see that pharmaceutical companies have a big pull with the government and that scares me. I could live a normal life without 4-5 injections a day and the risk of serious complications if this research is allowed. My husbands boss wouldn't have lost his exceptional wife last Sunday morning who fought a hard fight at cancer if this research could have been passed back when it first came to light that it can cure cancer. Fetus' and embryo's are aborted every day by women who could end up with these diseases that kill and we allow that; what's the difference if the embryo is in a petri-dish or human body?

You do not need embryos to harvest stem cells- they can be attained from other sources, such as umbilical cord blood. After a child is born and the cord cut, you can drain the cord form the pacenta end and voila, you have rich stem cells, pluripotent and culturable.
So seeing that you do NOT need embryos, aborted or other wise, then YES stem cell research is ok.
The people who are against it try and make everyone think that abortions are the only source. I am not in favour of abortion, but I am in favour of curing disease. Once you have a few stem cells, you can culture that cell line indefinitely and possibly eternally.
SO- let go of the controversy. It's MOOT.

When it has the potential of taking one life to sustain another, wrong. It is all about money. They just released info that they are having better success with amniotic stem cells and could be ready in a couple years to use this technology. They can obtain these from the waters that break at birth and no life is sacrificed

it is wrong if it kills the baby, but scientists have recently up with a new way of obtaining embryonic stem cells thats still in the works. they actually can obtain cells from the amniotic fluid, and they can do it without harming the baby!

You can't really have an opinion on this matter unless you have a person you love that's sick and dying. A child, a spouse, a sister, a parent, a best friend, only then you can really have the privilege of saying it's wrong, stop the research and let my kid die I'm OK with that.

On adult stem cells ... right.

On embryonic stem cells, obtained at the cost of an infant's life ... wrong!

I think its wrong. And for the record I'm anti-disease. I just don't feel that they should be removed at any cost. I just don't think its right to tamper with an embryo for many reasons. Besides, there are other avenues to explore. We should try not destroying the rain forest and doing an in depth study of the plants there in.

Wrong.

Murder of an innocent unborn human child. None of us has the right to play God with innocent human life no matter the age of that life. From the moment of conception to old age, all human life is sacred, especially innocent human life. And there is none more innocent than a baby or an unborn child in the womb.

wrong. Notice that even now that they have found stem cells in amniotic fluid that serve the very same function they are STILL saying "oh no we must have fetuses" What kind of sick people are these guys? They are still sacrificing to their so called God Moloch.

Stem cell research holds promise of treatment, possible cure of so many diseases it is immoral NOT to do it. These are not humans. These are collections of human cells, known as a blastocyst. You destroy more human cell every time you blow your knows or wipe your bum.

A Presidential veto will spare leftover embryonic
stem cells from the indignity of saving human lives and allow
them to be thrown in the garbage with their dignity intact. (Bob Parks)
