It's the type of metal....Try sewing patches over the back of the button, you know, like a bandaid. It's probably nickel, it's the cheap type of metal found in cheap jewelery. It's what causes my skin to turn green and get very irritated.

Probably an allergy to nickel, which is used in almost all common metal alloys, including jewelry (except pure gold), clothing buttons, rivets, zippers, belt buckles, etc.

Clear nail polish won't work for long, because it wears off quickly and you can't see when it's wearing off until the metal causes a rash again. Try adhesive-backed moleskin, such as Dr. Scholls Moleskin for feet. It comes in rolls, & you can cut it into little circles the size you need for the backs of jeans buttons, rivets, etc. The adhesive side is very sticky and usually will stay stuck to the back of the button even through a couple of washes. The non-sticky side is soft like suede or felt, and non-irritating to skin. One roll will last you for a couple of years.

Or if you are more ambitious, you can replace the buttons and rivets with nickel-free ones that can be special-ordered from places like nonickel.com ( http://nonickel.com/proddetail.asp?prod=buttonpack )

There are button up pants and you could replace her snaps with some of the newer ones that are hardened plastic or plastic covered. You could go to any top fabric store and ask them to show you how and what they feel could replace them.

Also has she been diagnosed professionallly or are you going by her syptoms alone, because if it doesn't cause a welt and if it is just itchy it may be something on them and you may be able to coat hem with clear finger nail polish and if you do that she may be okay. MAY BE. If she has been diagnosed as your doctor if he has another family with older children who have already gone through this that he'd ask if they would talk to you. WHY? Because they'll have learned how to deal with it, having the experience longer and they'll know what options are out there that tend to work.

GOOD LUCK!

I even have intense allergic reactions to metals and that's particularly nickel, so i'm particular that's a similar on your little ones, that's the utmost hypersensitive reaction metallic. you will hit upon plastic stuff too. maximum cheep and a few high priced rings has nickle so merely ask the clerk while you're in like Jc pennys. i'm getting peircing studs and placed on purely those in my ears, (I even have 2 holes in each ear) I never take them out or least not very oftentimes. i like necklaces yet can purely placed on 14 ok gold. If my neck gets sweaty, I destroy out too, like with a turtle neck. that's a discomfort, yet once you do it purely in some circumstances, like a dance or church and not 24/7 it form of feels to paintings.

Replace any metal buttons with plastic ones. Check zippers to make sure they are plastic, too. Any jewelry with nickel in it will cause an allergic reaction in some people. All of the jewelry that Avon sells is nickel-free. Test your daughter by getting her something that is nickel-free and if she doesn't react to that, she is allergic to the nickel in the metals.

in my mind your best option would be to try and find a thin pair of pants to put underneath the jeans, its not only gonna protect her from the metal but will keep her a little warmer in the colder seasons, its not much help for the hot seasons though but wearing nice dresses or sports clothing will help..
that's the best i got for ya Hun..

it's not due to all metals!
don't worry. you just have to make sure buttons or metal parts are coated with plastic or cloth. For e.g buttons have be 'decorated' with a piece of cloth, so that the metal part does not touch the skin.

go to a doctor. get her on antihistamine. i hope she is ok.

Try putting clear nail polish on the back of the buttons on the side that touches her skin, it will stop the metal from touching her skin
